Job Description:
This position is responsible for oversight and management of the clinical enterprise of the
Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine department. This includes clinics within Gainesville
as well as outlying areas (i.e., Deltona, Ocala) which are governed by the department. Specific
activities are listed below:
- Personnel Management -This position directs all personnel related activities of the Orthopaedic clinical enterprise including recruitment, hiring, evaluations, time management, employee relations, terminations, payroll certifications, insurance, and fringe benefits, and leave requests for regional programs. Supervises staff including training, evaluating performance, analyzing workload, determining work priorities, assigning duties, and overseeing work progress.
Additionally, the Associate Director is responsible for developing and maintaining departmental clinic related personnel operational policies for Chair and Vice Chair approval and is the primary liaison to Shands Employee Relations office as well as community regional practices.
Manages staffing models necessary for recruitment, retention, and assignment.
- Fiscal, Finance and Accounting - Directs the financial accounting and reporting operations of the clinical practice including financial planning, budget management, reporting, clinical affiliation agreements and accounting functions. Establishes accounting procedures and formulates instructions to ensure proper execution of fiscal operations. Directs the accounting activities of the clinics including accounts payable, accounts receivable, centralized account reconciliation, In consultation with the Vice Chair, exercises broad discretion in determining optimal use of funds.
Supervises account analysis and monitors operating budget to ensure accurate records and proper balancing. Monitors cash flow and burn rates on funds to ensure appropriate and effective spending.
Manages all contract negotiations, implementation, tracking, and invoice oversight with internal and external partners in conjunction with Vice Chair of Administration.
- Department Administration-Produces ad-hoc reports and executive summaries as needed. Works with departmental and institutional leadership to analyze and prepare business plans for new programs and initiatives. Prepare reports, graphs, charts, slides, etc. as necessary to communicate effectively. May prepare presentations or status reports for other departmental activities as requested.
Generates proformas for all APP and faculty hires/appointment changes for all regional practices. Represents the department on internal and external committees as assigned.
- Strategic Planning and Departmental Policy Making - Member of the department Executive Leadership Committee which is responsible for the strategic direction and decision making for the Department.
Expected Salary:
Salary is negotiable and commensurate with qualifications.
Minimum Requirements:
Master’s degree in appropriate area of specialization and four years of appropriate experience or a bachelor’s degree in appropriate areas of specialization and six years of experience.

Excel proficiency is very important
Background in the clinical environment as it relates to billing, collections, projections, and budget management
