Department Profile
The Global AML Group coordinates day-to-day implementation of the Firm’s enterprise-wide Anti-Money Laundering Program and required regulatory reporting. The Global AML Group provides advice and counsel to the business units and employees worldwide regarding their AML, economic sanctions and Anti-boycott compliance obligations. The Group also develops and/or assists in the development of appropriate policies and procedures, including those designed to assist the business units to know their clients and conduct appropriate due diligence, and to prevent, detect and report potentially suspicious activity. The Group has dedicated coverage managers and teams of analysts who advise and counsel each business unit regarding its AML obligations and its particular clients and transactions.
Background on the Team
The Investment Management AML Compliance team is focused on the anti-money laundering obligations associated with Company Investment Management Inc. (MSIM), the Firm’s asset management and investment advisory business which includes registered mutual funds, hedge funds, private equity, real estate, and merchant banking funds. The team is responsible for due diligence associated with new clients and accounts, ongoing due diligence and for monitoring transactions for suspicious activity.
Primary Responsibilities
The responsibilities of an analyst in the MSIM AML group include:
- Daily review and analysis of surveillance items flagged as potentially suspicious transactions or exceptions
- Assisting in the investigation, drafting and filing of Suspicious Activity Reports
- Conducting client due diligence in various third-party and internal databases.
- Ongoing reviews and monitoring of client accounts for potential matches to adverse media alerts, designated sanctions targets and prohibited persons lists.
- Assisting with compliance with USA PATRIOT Act requirements (e.g., CIP, Foreign Bank Certification, Section 312) relating to certain of MSIM’s business sectors.
Qualifications:
Skills required (essential)
Candidates must:
- Have a 4 year college degree with outstanding academic credentials;
- Have excellent written and verbal communications skills, attention to detail and strong time management skills;
- Have developed investigative skills – inquiry and analysis, interviewing, testing, organization and presentation (both written and verbal)
- Have the ability to interact in a mature and professional manner with a variety of individuals;
- Have general knowledge of investing and markets and the ability to research or must evidence the ability to learn and adapt quickly;
- Have the ability to handle a fast paced environment with minimum supervision and successfully meet established deadline requirements; and
- Be able to interact with branch and business unit personnel and be willing to receive and apply feedback on work product from supervisor(s)
Skills Desired
The Firm’s ideal candidate will have:
- 1-3 years of previous experience with a bank government agency (e.g., OCC, FRB, or FDIC) or in a regulatory, compliance, or internal audit capacity within the banking industry
- Compliance and/or regulatory experience, with knowledge of the financial service industry, regulatory requirements, and experience in analyzing business risk and best practices
- Experience with implementing, USA Patriot Act, Bank Secrecy Act, Office of the Comptroller (“OCC”), and Securities Exchange Commission (“SEC”) regulations
- ACAMS certification
