Summary
The Archive Curator will work closely with the Director of the Archive to research, select, and organize collections within the photo and film archives in order to highlight and promote their historical and educational value. This may include designing exhibits, creating a webspace, or collaborating with other museums or educational insitutions, as well as generating new ideas for outreach. The Curator will also be responsible for assessing and monitoring the condition of assets for archival stability in each of our photo and film collections. The Curator will generate condition reports for all assets and make recommendations for the conservation measures and storage conditions needed to preserve the works. In addition, the Curator will have the opportunity to attend archivist conservation and education conferences.
Responsibilities
1. Research and organize collections to promote and highlight the archive in creative ways. (35%)
2. Develop strategies for outreach that publicize the historical and educational value of the archive. (25%)
3. Assess and monitor condition of archival assets and generate condition reports. (20%)
4. Conduct inventory reviews and organize collections. (10%)
5. Assist with other archival research projects. (10%)
Minimum Education Required
Master's degree in Library Science, Archival Science, or Conservation with background in photography, film, and/or art required.
Minimum Years and Type of Experience
5 years of related experience.
Knowledge and Skills Required
Requires strong attention to detail along with excellent communication, organizational and computer skills. Experience with a digital asset management database is required and also must have knowledge of the following mediums: photography, film, and art.
