• Understanding of coordinate systems and projections
• Able to work independently while being supported by a team that is spread out geographically
• A strong interest in geology, engineering geology and/or geotechnical engineering and preferably with a good understanding of ground conditions in the British Isles including recognition of the complexity and importance of Quaternary deposits to ground engineering projects in the UK
• An appreciation of soil mechanics, geotechnical laboratory testing and of site investigation techniques and standards in the UK
• An understanding of the challenges of working on and assessing contaminated land in the UK and the framework under which this is undertaken
• Preferably an understanding of the role of the geological model in engineering geology and an appreciation of developing such models from a range of geophysical and intrusive data collection techniques
• Proficiency with relevant computer applications including ArcGIS or other GIS Software and basic Microsoft Office packages
• Familiarity using ArcGIS products, particularly for data creation and management

In the previous role, I was responsible for engineering technician services to include CAD and GIS based drafting and surveying and assist in developing maps and relational databases to produce updated mapping of the following; photo imagery, topography, floodplains, airfield pavements/features, roadway and transportation features, environmental features, facilities, and infrastructure (communications, electrical, water, sewer, gas, storm drainage, liquid fuels/POL, etc).
