I submit this application to express my sincere interest in the animal care technician position.

Previously, I was responsible for technical assistance for assessments and improvements of the veterinary reference laboratory and microbiology laboratories for animal health.

I reviewed the requirements of the job opening and I believe my candidacy is an excellent fit for this position. Some of the key requirements that I have extensive experience with include:

• Basic scientific knowledge as demonstrated by previous scientific coursework, and/or prior work experience in a scientific setting
• Computer literacy in word processing and database record keeping
• Knowledge of business and management principles involved in planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques and coordination of people preferred
• Knowledge of teaching and instruction for individuals and groups preferred
• Able to operate and maintain equipments related with animal care
• Regularly lifts and/or moves equipment and materials weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or moves equipment and materials weighing up to 25 pounds
• Work in a busy research environment, which requires use of sharp objects, working around mechanical parts, working with or near known or unknown toxic or caustic chemicals and/or biological hazards, exposure to fumes and airborne particles
• Work with biological samples with risk or exposure to, zoonotic disease, and biohazards

In the previous role, I was responsible for quality assurance to include animal health surveillance, monitoring of the effectiveness of facility sanitation, cage washing and autoclaving procedures, monitoring of incoming animal shipments for container integrity and animal health, monitor the heating, ventilation and air conditioning ﴾VAC﴿ internal facility reports for monitoring deviations from pre‐established parameters, other quality assurance services as deemed necessary ﴾.g., sentinel and cull animal submission﴿by the Project Officer.

• Provide inhalation anesthesia induction, monitoring, recovery, post-surgical observations and record keeping
• Willing to be certified by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science as an Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) within 18 months of employment
• Prefer certification by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science as Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT)
• Experience with preoperative and postoperative care of rabbits, including administration of anesthetic agents
• Provide general & specialized husbandry following established Amgen Guidance Documents
• Recognize and report complex signs of clinical illness and provide treatment as instructed at the by veterinary staff
• Perform post-surgical observations and associated record keeping
