Description:
Carroll University, home to an exceptional NCAA Division III athletic program, seeks a visionary Director of Athletics for our dynamic programs. The successful candidate will bring to Carroll strong leadership and management skills, a desire for sustained competitiveness and academic achievement for our student- athletes. Carroll fields 22 NCAA Division III varsity sports and competes in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW), widely regarded as one of the most competitive Division III conferences in the country. In recent years, Carroll has had 8 conference championships.

Carroll University has completed approximately $120 million in construction in the last ten years with projects including a nearly 42,000-square-foot Michael and Mary Jaharis Science Laboratories, Doug and Nancy Hastad Hall with high-tech nursing, physics, engineering and exercise science spaces. Rankin Hall, one of the university's historic buildings, is currently being renovated and will house updated and expanded classroom and office spaces. The 2015 renovations of The Van Male Field House included newly configured locker rooms, showers, restroom facilities, staff offices, storage spaces, laundry services, an enhanced, accessible entrance on Barstow Street, and new classroom and athletic training spaces. The modernized look and state-of-the-art upgrades better serve the entire Carroll community, and are an extension of Carroll's commitment to wellness, fitness, intercollegiate athletics, student recreation and intramurals, and the recruitment and retention of student-athletes.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee the organization and management of all athletics department personnel, policies and procedures.
• Develop vision and strategic planning for Carroll's Division III intercollegiate athletic programs (22 athletic teams and over 600 student athletes) that is tied to the University's mission.
• Partner with Institutional Advancement to coordinate fundraising and development activities with alumnae, community and corporate partners that are vital to the athletics department's operations.
• Ensure compliance with all University, CCIW, NCAA and Title IX policy and regulations.
• Promote effective communication among all institutional constituents (e.g., President, staff, administrators, faculty, student-athletes, alumni and the public).
• Create an environment that supports diversity, equity and inclusion (including gender, race, religion and sexual identity) consistent with the Carroll ethos.
• Provide mentorship and professional development for athletics staff that fosters competitiveness, teamwork and achievement.
• Assist coaches in the development of recruiting strategies for outstanding student-athletes, in collaboration with admissions staff, and understanding the role athletics in the growth and advancement of Carroll University.
• Develop and manage effective fiscal operations, policies and procedures.
• Support the brand of Carroll University and lead by example as a brand ambassador.
• Collaborate with athletics staff to promote academic success, retention and graduation, through partnerships with the office of student success, the learning commons and student affairs for all student athletes.
• Ensure the administration of services that maintains the health and safety of all student-
athletes.
• Oversee the annual assessment of the athletics department.
• Play an active role in conference and national affairs.
• Perform other duties as requested, delegated or assigned.
Qualifications:
Education, Experience and Licensure
• Master's Degree in Athletic Administration, Education Administration, Business Administration or related field from a regionally accredited college or university preferred.
• Proven leadership with minimum of five years of full-time intercollegiate experience and a record of progressive responsibility including personnel management fundraising, donor cultivation, compliance and operations experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Understand the mission and role of Division III athletics
• Knowledge of NCAA and Title IX compliance and regulations.
• Experience with fiscal management and preparing and managing the operating budget,
equipment and facilities.
