Director of Finance - PAR, PD, Merchandising
Description
The Director of Finance will serve as a strategic business partner providing financial leadership, direction and advice to the Global Merchandising Leadership Team (Merchandising; Planning, Allocations, and Replenishment; and, Product Development). This position will develop and implement financial strategies in support of optimizing sales, margin, and inventory. In addition, this position is expected to play a key role in leading cross functional initiatives to capitalize on areas of growth and profit improvement opportunities and is expected to work collaboratively across the organization. This position will play a key role in guiding the senior leadership team in Merchandising business performance and financial discipline; and also provide analytical support and consistency to business related strategies, initiatives, and activities to maximize value, minimize risks, and help make better decisions.
This role is critical in setting-up short-term and long-term financial objectives and in providing a deep understanding of the business unit’s current business performance and future operating and strategic model. It will provide an unbiased, analytically driven perspective of key business drivers and trends to senior leaders at category, brand, banner, and aggregate levels, as well as uncover opportunities across the businesses. The Finance Director will assume a leadership role in various business unit projects, ranging from table stakes measurement, target setting, reporting, performance management and operational improvement programs to strategic planning and assessments.
Qualifications
Budgeting/ Forecasting
Manage and lead the Finance planning, forecasting, annual budget cycles and decision support activities in support of Field Operations business, including sales, margin, and inventory budgets. This activity will require working across multiple business units including, Merchandising, Marketing, Product Development, and Merchandise Planning, identifying and measuring key performance metrics while ensuring the organization is focused on beating the results as planned
Strategic evaluation of sales and profit improvement opportunities
Serve as a strategic financial business partner with the field Leadership team,. Serve as strategic financial business partner for Merchandise Leadership Team, including SVPs of Merchandise Planning and Product Development and our General and Divisional Merchandise Managers (GMM and DMM leadership). Support the business through analysis of trends, identification of risks and opportunities, and understanding of ROI, financial, and operational impacts of ongoing programs and new projects. Evaluate viability of potential investment opportunities and work with leadership team to build business cases for new initiatives and/or capital investments. Conduct post audit reviews of investments for comparison to expected results. Provide Finance ownership and organizational advocacy for our test and learn programs (APT platform).
Business Reviews
Drive and conduct the business review conversations based on critical KPI’s – traffic, UPT, AUR, comp sales, margin rates, and inventory turn, among others. Provide value-added analysis, insights, and recommendations to mitigate risks and identify opportunities. Drive conversations on early identification of emerging business trends. Steer focus to alignment on forward-quarter and future year targets for sales and margin.
Staff Management & Development
Mentor, train, develop and manage day-to day activities of the Finance Managers/Analysts. Encourages others to seek opportunities for different and innovative approaches to addressing problems and opportunities; facilitates the implementation and acceptance of change within the organization.
Bachelor's Degree
10-15 years of experience
Accounting or Finance degree MBA highly preferred
A minimum of 7 yrs related experience required
Retail background a strong plus
Previous supervisory experience required
Familiarity with enterprise level BI tools and Financial ERP (i.e, Microstrategy, Qlik, Hyperion, etc.)
