The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is accepting applications for the position of Associate Director, Development. This is a career, full-time position with a targeted salary of $63,600/year with full health benefits and membership in the UC Retirement Plan. Reporting to the Assistant Athletic Director, Major Gifts; the Associate Director, Development will be responsible for developing, implementing and overseeing strategies for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gift donors. UCLA Athletics has embarked on an aggressive $300 million campaign for facility improvements, endowments, and annual fund initiatives. The Associate Director will assess and articulate goals and priorities for increasing support for Athletics. Determine and establish long and short term goal objectives for major gifts, planned gifts, endowments, special projects, capital projects, and high-level annual fund gifts in Los Angeles area and the state of California.
The Associate Director will work with volunteer committees and organizations to identify potential supporters for Athletics and develop strategies to engage those individuals, corporations, and foundations. Regularly interact with prospects and donors through personal meetings, attendance at special events and UCLA athletic competitions, telephone conversations and correspondence. In addition, the Associate Director, Development will work in conjunction with the Director of Special Events on event management for the UCLA Athletics Development Department.

All applicants should demonstrate the following abilities and requirements:
Proven skills in developing sophisticated strategies in planning, implementing and administering complex major-gift solicitations;
Proven strong team-building skills, creating liaisons with coaches, staff, campus development colleagues, faculty, and administrators to develop effective cultivation and solicitation strategies;
Demonstrated working knowledge of the principles and practices of major gift fund raising for intercollegiate athletics;
Effective written communication skills necessary to write and edit letters, memos, reports, discussion documents, proposals and other solicitation materials;
Strong verbal communication skills to articulate the mission of Athletics, the University, and desired fund-raising goals of the department and make persuasive oral presentation;
Must possess the ability to travel and work some nights and weekends;
Demonstrated progressive experience and responsibility as a development officer;
Experience in making cold-calls and resilience to withstand rejection;
Ability to exercise initiative, work proactively, and accept responsibility;
Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision;
Bachelor's degree, master's degree preferred, with three to five years of progressively responsible experience, preferably in intercollegiate athletic fund-raising, including a strong documented record of gifts solicited in the special and major-gifts range; Knowledge of and the ability to comply with PAC-12 Conference and NCAA rules and regulations.
