Description
•Promote assigned sports through traditional media relations means, including press releases, notes, previews, and recaps, using Adobe InDesign software.
•Promote assigned sports through all social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) using graphics created through Photoshop •Media contact for Men’s Ice Hockey team as well as three to four other sports
•Provide daily sports media services and support for coaching staffs of the assigned sports
•Assist with video projects, video streaming efforts and photography
•Serve as the sport’s statistician, historian and archivist.
•Work closely with other departments (marketing, ticketing, development) in developing an overall content management strategy for each sports program
•Maintain and upkeep assigned sports and general material on GoBlackBears.com
•Coordinate and manage the publicity efforts with national and local media – managing and setting up all media appearances (TV, Print, Radio, etc.)
•Supervise press box operations for assigned sports and assist with other major sports.
•Report statistics and award nominations for all conferences (America East, CAA, Hockey East) and NCAA
•Establish and maintain working relationships with local, regional and national media
•Perform a limited number of administrative duties as assigned
•Ensure compliance with all NCAA, University, America East, CAA and Hockey East conference rules and regulations in all areas of responsibilities (particularly in dealings with National Letter of Intent signings)
•Other reasonably related duties as assigned
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• 2-3 or more years experience required in athletic communications or related field
• Experience working with collegiate hockey program preferred
• Video shooting/editing and photography experience preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge and understanding of intercollegiate athletics preferred, preferable with experience at the NCAA Division I level preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to utilize computers in performing job duties, including ability to use desktop publishing, spreadsheets and word processing required.
• Demonstrated ability to organize multiple tasks, meet deadlines and plan schedules.
• Ability to travel (normally requiring a valid driver’s license & personal vehicle).
• Proficiency in desktop publishing software (InDesign and Photoshop)
• Website design and maintenance experience required
• Proficiency in social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
• Proficiency in Stat Crew, especially with hockey
• Experience with web editing through SideArm Sports preferred
• Must be able to work nights and weekends
