An Athletic Head Coach reports to the Director of Athletics and Recreation and is responsible for all phases of a varsity athletic program. A head coach must direct and manage the operations of a varsity athletic program achieving predetermined goals and objectives set in conjunction with the Director of Athletics and Recreation. These include the development of student athletes, the recruitment of qualified student athletes, team management and operations, budgeting, management of assistant coaches and execution of team goals. This is a full time (10 month) coaching position.
CLASSIFICATION: Administrative
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the direction of the Director of Athletics and Recreation.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervises assistant coaches and interns.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop student athletes to their highest potential both academic and athletic.
The recruitment and retention of qualified student athletes.
Work with the admissions office and in providing information to any interested prospective student athletes.
Communicate contacts with prospective student athletes to the Admissions office.
Advise and direct all squad members, captains, team representatives, Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and managers on all matters concerning their lives as students and athletes at the College.
Schedule and arrange all practices and competitions.
Prepare a schedule that complies with department policy, goals and objectives in conjunction with the Director of Athletics and Recreation.
Hire supervise and evaluate all assistant coaches.
Organize and conduct effective training sessions and contests to improve student athletes athletic effectiveness.
Scout and prepare student athletes for opponents through effective game strategies.
Review and uphold all NCAA, Conference and Moravian College rules, regulations and policies.
Plan, prepare and conduct alumni events and programs and communicating these plans to the Office for Institutional Advancement.
Prepare and submit sport and equipment budget requests for approval prior to purchase as requested by the Director of Athletics, adhering to department and college budget policies.
Administer the sport budget in a fiscally responsible manner.
Coordinate team travel, housing and meals for away events.
Submit a travel itinerary for required away contests
Meet with the Director of Athletics prior to the start of your season to review goals and needs for the season.
Meet with the Director of Athletics at the end of your season to evaluate the completed season.
Demonstrate at a high level leadership, sportsmanship, and personal and ethical conduct becoming of the College, the Conference, the NCAA and the appropriate professional coaching association.
Annually review and adhere to the NCAA, Conference, and sport rules and requirements noting any current sport rule changes.
Attend all required NCAA, Conference and Department coaches meetings
Communicate and cooperate with the athletic training staff regarding medical clearance requirements, injury prevention, rehabilitation and the status of injured athletes.
Communicate and cooperate with the SID regarding the promotion of the team and individual student athletes.
Submit facility, game and practice requests to the appropriate Assistant Director of Athletics with facility and time usage request.
Notify all those necessary of any roster additions or deletions as soon as possible after they occur.
Assure that all game and practice uniforms, clothing and equipment are issued and returned to the equipment room staff in an appropriate and orderly fashion, and all equipment is inventoried within one week of the last contest.
Organize and conduct team community service activities when possible.
Work with the Sports Information Director and the staff of Institutional Development Office (when appropriate) to develop promotional events throughout the year.
Assist whenever possible in the promotion of our Blue & Grey Club
Performs other duties and special projects that may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelors degree required, masters preferred
Experience: Coaching at the intercollegiate level preferred with preference given to those with head coaching experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential. Must be detail-oriented and well organized. Strict confidentiality of information pertaining to the office and alumni is essential.
Any combination of acceptable education and experience, which has provided the necessary knowledge and skills to fulfill the requirements of this position, may be considered.
