Oglethorpe University seeks a dynamic new leader for the division of athletics who will create a vibrant and robust intercollegiate athletic program and student athlete experience.
Oglethorpe Athletics is comprised of 16 varsity sports and 6 reserve and club teams. Oglethorpe’s athletes excel both on and off the field with over 700 student athletes on the Academic Honor Roll in the past decade. Oglethorpe teams have won 16 conference championships and 2 national championship in the past ten years.
Essential qualities of Oglethorpe’s new athletic director include progressive leadership in athletics, commitment to scholar athletes and the Division III philosophy, and experience working with recruitment and retention at a small private liberal arts institution.
Oglethorpe seeks a leader with substantial management experience and creative approaches to the integration of athletics and curricular programs. The director of athletics works closely with faculty and staff to shape the campus climate and reports to the Vice President for Campus Life (with a dotted line reporting to the President). The director is expected to be both a teacher and role model who embodies the ideals of honor, integrity, and citizenship. Through the director’s work, the division of athletics fulfills the University’s creed of Make a Life, Make a Living, and Make a Difference.
Athletic Director Position
•Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the department and supervision of the athletics department staff and provides professional growth opportunities for members of the department
•Oversee the organization and management of all athletics department personnel, policies and procedures
•Champion and direct the department’s strategic plan and compliance with Title IX
•Promote effective communication among all institutional constituents (e.g., President, staff, administrators, faculty, student-athletes, alumni and the public)
•Foster a commitment to diversity and inclusiveness throughout the department
•Coordinate fundraising and development activities in conjunction with university advancement
•Responsible for the compliance and fiscal operations and stability of the athletics department
•Oversee the annual assessment policies and procedures
•Maintain compliance with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Southern Athletic Association (SAA).
•Play an active role in conference and national affairs and maintain communication with outside organizations that are vital to the athletics department’s operations.
A master's degree in appropriate related field strongly preferred.
•Minimum of five years full-time experience in intercollegiate athletic administration at the college or university level or comparable worksite, with supervisory experience

Compensation
Salary is commensurate with experience; 12-month appointment with comprehensive benefits.
