Director of Security with Portland Trail Blazers at the Rose Quarter in Portland, OR

To support our pursuit, we are looking for a Director of Security for the Rose Quarter who will lead, manage, supervise, and coordinate the 24-hour security for the Moda Center, Veterans Memorial Coliseum and the Rose Quarter Commons. This individual will be in charge of implementing and executing policies and procedures to ensure efficient and safe operation of the Rose Quarter facilities and campus. In addition, our Director of Security will develop internal training programs related to current industry standards and best practices and will be the venue security liaison with the NBA.
You will be responsible for:
• Being a positive influence to the team and leading with a high level of integrity.
• Staying current on and, where practical, deploy state-of-the-art technology solutions and innovative security management techniques to safeguard assets and property.
• Establishing appropriate standards and associated risk controls.
• Leading and updating the Emergency Management program, ensuring all Rose Quarter employees are familiar with policy and procedures. Scheduling regular emergency evacuation drills, Table Top and Field Training exercises.
• Continuing to develop and manage the department’s training program by coordinating training needs with the Agent Supervisors and ensuring that training is regularly provided to all personnel.
• Executing NBA Arena Security Procedures & Guidelines with the goal of consistently running one of the best security departments in the league.
• Proactively identifying security vulnerabilities and developing strategies to mitigate or eliminate any identified threats.
• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with local, state and Federal law enforcement and life safety agencies.
• Overseeing the collection, reporting, and documentation of injuries and accidents by the assigned Security Agent; ensuring the documentation is complete and then forwarding to appropriate parties.
• Establishing and overseeing work objectives, assignments, and projects for Security Operations staff.
• Assisting with the administration of all physical security systems, including but not limited to, access control, video surveillance cameras, alarms, and fire panels. Ensureing proper responses are made in a timely manner to all activations and are documented.
• Reviewing, evaluating, and approving incident reports daily and other documentation prepared by Security Agents regarding investigations of theft, accidents, safety violations, and all other issues indicated in the activity logs. Ensuring reports are documented and filed electronically using the organization’s software and databases dedicated to record keeping.
• Coordinating the schedule of external event staffing personnel including, but not limited to, off duty police officers, EMT’s, and peer group security as needed.
• Assisting with the hiring process for both full and part-time agents and conducting annual performance reviews.
• Completing special projects and tasks as assigned and within specified deadlines.
• Working special events including Trail Blazers games, hockey games, concerts, trade and flat shows, and other events hosted at the Rose Quarter.
You are qualified if:
• You have a Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.
• You have 5+ years of experience in corporate security, law enforcement, sports and entertainment security, or a related field.
• You have 3+ years of progressive supervisory/management responsibility in a related field.
• You have experience working with a professional sports league in a security management role - preferred.
• You can regularly work on evenings and weekends within a flexible schedule.
• You have a proven track record of building high performance teams.
• You can accurately produce reports and other documentation suitable for dissemination to senior management.
• You can work collaboratively in a dynamic, high profile environment and deliver extraordinary moments to our guests and our employees.
• You are professional during all interactions with others, especially in situations with conflicting perspectives/opinions or high stress incidents.
• You are able to handle sensitive and confidential information without compromising the integrity of the material or the situation.
• You have highly developed interpersonal skills with a tactful and diplomatic communication style.
• You have demonstrated experience assisting with the development and/or direction of emergency preparedness related table top and drills.
• You have experience conducting investigations.
• You are proficient in the operation and use of various software applications, including but not limited to Word, Excel, Outlook, video management systems, and sports and entertainment databases.
• You are an active member in security related organizations that discuss and monitor current security industry standards and best practices - preferred.
