The Assistant Athletic Director for Development will serve as a major gifts officer on behalf of Intercollegiate Athletics and University Advancement for Eastern Michigan University. The position will manage a portfolio of annual and major gift donors and prospects. The primary focus will be on identifying new prospects (IE pipeline builder), cultivating current/prospective donors, soliciting high annual and major gifts, as well as stewarding current/new donors. This position will also provide oversight to sport specific crowdfunding efforts and premium seating initiatives.
This position will also develop and maintain a portfolio of 50 major gift prospects capable of giving $10,000+ and be responsible for major gift prospecting, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. Other duties as assigned by the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Development.
Essential duties:
•Work closely with and provide support to the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Development to develop and pursue on-going fundraising plans and priorities. Such plans should include creation of an annual fund (crowdfunding) calendar, major gift society development, website oversite, direct mail solicitations, events, etc.
•Oversee donor renewal and stewardship processes. Plan and coordinate annual fund membership renewal solicitations via direct mail, electronic appeals and personal visits.
•Directly assist assigned sports and head coaches in fundraising goals and objectives.
•Assist in the preparation of materials and presentations for special projects and committees including presentation packets for gift solicitations, committee, board and volunteer meetings.
•Strengthen the unit’s volunteer network and utilize this network more effectively for fundraising within the unit. Maintain database for resource development boards, committees and volunteer groups.
•Oversee special events and d
onor receptions as assigned by the Senior Associate Athletic Director.
•Oversee and provide project guidance to student workers.
•Execute annual student-athlete thank-a-thon. Other Duties:
•Attend unit and Foundation related meetings when requested.
•Attend External Relations Council for Athletics
Provide leadership and participate actively in Foundation activities such as recruiting and interviewing new employees, attending departmental meetings and retreats and participating in appropriate University events.
•Work cooperatively with Foundation professional staff to further University-wide fundraising goals.
•Work effectively and cooperatively with senior management at the EMU Foundation.
•Other duties as assigned by Senior Associate Athletic Director for Development.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree with more than five years of progressively responsible work experience in development, marketing or communications.
• Ability to manage, plan and organize, set priorities and establish work objectives, follow through on assignments; exhibit flexibility; anticipate work issues and problems; and provide leadership to projects.
• Proficiency in personal computing skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point; willingness to learn donor management program.
• Ability to work professionally and effectively with external constituences.
• Ability to present oral and written information effectively and clearly; ability to listen effectively and solicit information from others.
• Ability to manage an irregular work schedule including occasional evenings, early mornings, and weekends. May involve use of personal transportation to travel throughout southeastern Michigan.
• Experience working in non-profit organization or University setting preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills are neccessary.
