Summary: The Assistant Athletic Director, Compliance performs work related to compliance with all NCAA, Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), and Wake Forest University rules and regulations, concentrating in area of financial aid. Responsible for evaluation, development, and administration of systems to maintain institutional control of the athletics program. This position works directly with Associate Athletics Director for Compliance in all areas of NCAA, ACC, and Wake Forest University (WFU) compliance.
Essential Functions:
Adheres to and enforces all Departmental policies and procedures, as well as rules and regulations of the University, the ACC, and the NCAA and other authorities that may legitimately influence programs. Maintains current knowledge of trends and changes related to compliance in intercollegiate athletics. Directs distribution and collection of National Letters of Intent and WFU Financial Aid Agreements in compliance with all NCAA, ACC, and University rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Directs the renewal and non-renewal of athletic scholarships. Ensures compliance with NCAA, ACC, and University rules regarding terms and conditions of aid; maximum limitations per sport, student-athlete’s eligibility for aid, and semester and summer employment. Chairs a joint committee of University personnel that participates in awarding student financial aid. Provides advisory assistance and support to campus offices that participate in the certification and awarding of financial aid. Completes and ensures the continuing accuracy of NCAA Squad Lists. Manages and oversees implementation and use of the NCAA CAI database.
Manages distribution of the Student-Athlete Opportunity Fund. Serves as liaison with Financial and Accounting Office and Financial Aid Office. Coordinates development of educational materials for meetings with coaches, staff, student-athletes, and parents. Assists with various NCAA reports. Provides legislative interpretive support, as needed.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree plus one-three years of experience in Division I NCAA Compliance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Ability and desire to perform accurate detail-oriented work, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanor.
Ability to understand, comply with, and enforce NCAA, ACC, and University rules, and regulations.
Ability to foster a cooperative environment.
Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed.
Must be able to meet the requirements of the University’s automobile insurance policy.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Masters or Juris Doctor and experience in NCAA Division I campus athletics compliance office.
