Job Summary
As Head Softball Coach: responsible for all aspects of an NCAA Division III athletic program. As Sports Information Assistant (Fall Sports): manage all aspects of the coverage of Berea College’s intercollegiate athletic teams and events during the fall sports season.
Responsibilities
•Coaching and supervision of coaches and support staff; Assure compliance with the rules and regulations of the USA South Athletic Conference and NCAA Division III; Work with sports information office to ensure profile information on all players is accurate and up-to-date; Work with sports information office to ensure completion of all statistical reporting;
•Coordinate scheduling with the Director of Athletics;
•Manage program budget within assigned funding levels
•Manage the Berea College Athletics sports information department during the fall sports season in compliance with all institutional, USA South Athletic Conference and NCAA Division III rules and regulations; Assist with managing content on the departmental website throughout the fall sports season;
•Serve as the point of contact for visiting sports information directors and media during the fall sports season;
•Produce press releases and other athletic marketing segments under guidance of the Sports Information Director and in cooperation with the College’s Media Relations Manager;
•Responsible for all statistical generation and reporting during the fall sports season; Manage the Berea College Sports Network audio and video coverage of athletic events during the fall sports season;
•Oversee and provide athletics social media content during the fall sports season;
•Create programs or game note sheets for home sporting events during the fall sports season;
•Distribute press releases to alumni, media or other appropriate constituencies for teams that compete during the fall; Nominate fall sport student-athletes and coaches for conference, regional and national awards; Develop human interest stories for the department website and various publications;
•Assist with training student workers and/or interns to assist in sports information operations;
•Coordinate and/or take photographs of individual student-athletes, teams and athletic events during the fall sports season;
•Serve as the Student-Athlete Service Coordinator and oversee the department’s partnership with Special Olympics;
Special skills, knowledge and abilities:
• Bachelor’s degree required;
• Master’s degree preferred.
• Demonstrated successful softball coaching experience, preferably at the collegiate level;
• Knowledge of and experience in the sports information field.
• Outstanding knowledge in teaching and coaching softball.
• Familiarity with statistical software (StatCrew, etc.), as well as Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office;
• Video editing experience preferred.
• Ability to meet time-sensitive deadlines.
• Superior communication (oral, written and interpersonal) skills;
• Demonstrated organizational, leadership and time management skills.
• Ability to work with and relate well to students, faculty, staff and other coaches.
• Must be willing to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
Strong interest in intercollegiate athletics administration and familiarity with the NCAA Division III philosophy.
