Director of Athletic Media Relations
Job Purpose
Towson University is accepting applications for a Director of Athletic Media Relations. Reporting to the Deputy Director of Athletics for Operations, this position will direct administrative and fiscal operations for Athletics Communications.
The Director will serve as a member of the external leadership team, advising on strategic planning initiatives and all aspects of the department's verbal, written, video and internet-based communication.
Description
The Director of Athletic Media Relations develops and directs a comprehensive strategic communications plan for the department's communications tools (television, radio, print/newspaper, website and social media).
Oversees the design and production of all departmental publications, media guides and printed collateral (i.e. posters, schedule cards, programs, etc.); coordinates photographic needs for website and publications.
Serves as the primary sports contact for football and serves as the departmental spokesperson with local, regional and national media; coordinates the proration of media coverage for award nominations; oversees media interviews for coaches and student-athletes to generate publicity and exposure.
Serves as speech and scriptwriter for departmental special events and multimedia projects; editor-in-chief for the department's website to include writing releases and updating content.
Provides measurement data and analysis; compiles and distributes statistics. Works with the new media department to create original multimedia and video content for the website.
Oversees the departments' Hall of Fame (HOF) committee and coordinates HOF events.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and three years of experience in the field of athletics media relations, communications, public relations or related field. Excellent Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and StatCrew statistical software skills.
Experience with graphic design, preferably using Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Acrobat.
Excellent communication skills; ability to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality; ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations; strong knowledge of social media platforms; strictly adhere to NCAA, CAA and athletic department rules and regulations.
A Criminal Background Investigation is required for the hired candidate and the results may impact employment.
