Buena Vista University, an NCAA Division III institution and founding member of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, is accepting applications for the position of Director of Cheer and Dance Programs/Head Competitive Cheer Coach. Responsibilities include leading the cheer and dance teams that provides a positive visible spirited presence at BVU, that is also competitive on a conference, regional, and national level. This individual will be responsible for leading the advancement of cheer and dance to include the facilitation, supervision and progression of cheer and dance activities. Applicants should possess a strong coaching background and demonstrated success recruiting and retaining student-athletes. A background check will be conducted on the final candidate.
Qualifications:
•A Bachelor’s degree is required, Master’s degree preferred.
•Three years of experience coaching preferred. Must have extensive training and experience in cheerleading, as well as knowledge/experience in dance.
•College competitive cheerleading experience preferred.

Responsibilities
• Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to make sound administrative decisions. Plan and direct athletic skill development for the cheer and dance programs.
• Recruit students in accordance with the mission of Buena Vista University and the goals of the program for the spirit cheer squad, competitive cheer team, dance team and mascot; advertise/lead tryouts if necessary.
• Monitor academic performance and implement team, athletics department, and University measures to support their academic performance.
• Successfully work in conjunction with university personnel to retain students at the institution.
• Oversee two part-time assistant coaches who assist with the spirit cheer squad and dance teams, while maintain primary coaching responsibilities for the competitive cheer team.
• Evaluate the performance of the assistant coach.
• Oversee program budgets and follow budgetary guidelines established by the Athletics Administration; account for uniforms and supplies.
• Work with the Director of Athletic Performance for pre-season, in-season, and off-season training and conditioning programs.
• Cooperate with the Athletic Training staff to ensure students receive proper medical attention and physical training services.
• Coordinate all activities in preparation for practices, home/away athletic events, conference/regional/national competitions, department and university needs for appearances, and community involvement.
• Enforce and maintain appropriate safety standards and procedures.
• Must be certified by the AACCA to comply with NCAA regulations every three years.
• Plan and coordinate fundraising and alumni engagement efforts.
• Attend appropriate athletics department staff meetings.
• Assist the Athletics Administration in resolving cases where a student violates an applicable regulation.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
