The Director of Athletics (A.D.) serves as the chief administrator for Glenville State College's intercollegiate and club sport programs under the supervision of the President. The A.D. is responsible for all aspects of these areas, ranging from the articulation of the department's vision to the management of routine operational details. The Athletic Director also plays a critical role as a senior leader within the College. With a strong commitment to building a culture of inclusivity, leadership and mentorship both within the Department of Athletics, and more broadly across the campus. This position works closely with other colleagues, particularly the Vice President for Student Life to design and facilitate a holistic student experience that supports an outstanding college education.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Build and sustain an athletic program that best positions Glenville State College to compete and win at the conference and national level while furthering the academic mission of the college through athletics.
•Recruit, enroll and educate the best scholar athletes and prepare them for lives of leadership.
•Promote programs of distinction with a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy designed to enhance national awareness of Glenville's distinctive values and educational environment.
•Work in partnership with the Vice President of Enrollment to reach roster and institutional enrollment goals.
•Work in partnership with the Vice President of Student Life to build a robust campus environment.
•Collaborate with the Vice President of Advancement and the Director for Athletic Fundraising to exceed athletic fundraising goals.
•Ensure compliance with NCAA, MEC, institutional, and Title IX rules and regulations.
•Recruit, retain, lead, and inspire high-performing coaches and athletic administrators.
•Appraise performance, provide feedback, and give guidance for all athletic personnel.
•Develop shared departmental goals and a culture of excellence for the athletics department.
•Build a sense of community and collective identity among scholar athletes, coaches, athletic administrators, faculty, alumni and supporters.
•Drive excitement and awareness around the athletic programs and events to increase fan interest.
•Recommend and facilitate enhancements to athletic facilities comparable to peer institutions.
•Foster a working and learning environment conducive to such values as trust, teamwork, integrity and commitment consistent with College's mission.
•Continually strive to upgrade all aspects of the Athletics Department within the existing framework of the College.
•Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested by the College President
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
• Knowledge of college athletic administration principles; budgeting and personnel management; NCAA rules and regulations; Title IX compliance, gender equity and diversity.
• Strong leadership, management and team-building skills at the college level.
• Demonstrated commitment to execute strategic goals and mission with a college -first perspective and customer-focused.
• Ability to establish a clear and understandable vision for Athletics and Club Sports and build the operational components to execute the vision.
• Experience with directing, inspiring and motivating others, and measuring the performance and progress of people, teams and organizations.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with an ability to effectively communicate to a variety of audiences both external and internal to College
• Strong external relations skills and the ability to build partnerships within the community and generate revenue.
• Commitment to promote student-athletes' personal development, high academic achievement, and full participation in all aspects of university life.
• Commitment to work closely with the Senior Women's Administrator to assure gender equity, affirmative action, and Title IX compliance; work to provide equal opportunities for all students to participate in intercollegiate athletics in accordance with university rules and state and federal laws.
• Superior interpersonal abilities and integrity.
• Must be resourceful, well organized and results oriented.
• Proven ability and/or high interest in and aptitude for fundraising and donor development.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Master's degree in Sports Administration, Public Administration, Business or related field, plus six years of progressively responsible related work experience that includes a minimum of three years leading and/or supervising the work of others; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong track record of entrepreneurial activity and success.
• Progressive experience and responsibility at a college or university in athletics-related roles
• Significant budget, operations, and facilities management experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of exemplary practices in creating transformative student athlete experiences.
• Proven ability in hiring, supervising, developing, and evaluating athletic personnel. (e.g. coaches)
• Demonstrated success in leadership, fund raising, decision-making and employee relations.
