The Big Ten Conference is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Associate Director of Communications. Responsibilities are primarily in communications, public relations and publications. The Associate Director will serve as the primary media contact for men’s basketball and other select sports, while also assisting with the Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament, Basketball Media Day, Football Championship Game, Football media Days/Kickoff Luncheon, various public affairs and policy issues impacting intercollegiate athletics, and other duties as assigned. This individual may have at least one direct report, so experience as a supervisor is also preferred.
Qualifications:
Must have a bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of experience in the fields of communications and/or public relations.
Position requires excellent oral and written communications skills, demonstrated collaborative and team-building competencies, and the ability to work well under deadline.
Regional travel required.
Must be willing to work flexible hours including weekends.
Candidates should also have experience with website management and be adept in social media strategy and engagement through various platforms.
A working knowledge of InDesign, PhotoShop and StatCrew statistical software is preferred.
The ability to occasionally lift materials of 25-50 pounds, walking and/or standing for a sustained period of time may be required.
Starting annual salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, plus participation in the Conference’s benefits plans.
