POSITION SUMMARY
The mission of the Athletics Department is to provide an environment for student-athlete development in pursuit of the highest level of athletic achievement, academic development, and growth of the whole person in the tradition of the Jesuit and Marymount ideals. Reporting to the President and serving on the President’s Cabinet, the Athletics Director will contribute to the university’s national prominence by leading winning athletics programs. The Athletics Director will advance the overall mission of the university to develop the whole person while complementing the pursuit of academic excellence, cultural diversity, and gender equity within championship sports programs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Establish a winning culture that invigorates student and fan experiences and enhances LMU’s reputation of integrity and achievement.
2.Develop a long-term strategic plan and vision for the Athletics Department. The long-term plan will include all aspects of the Athletics Department such as competitiveness, academic achievement, fundraising, facilities, staffing, fan engagement and experience, budget, media and market exposure, and overall student-athlete experience.
3.Lead, direct, and oversee all intercollegiate athletic programs and activities, including the appropriate administrative and organizational structures that support university goals and objectives.
4.Maintain and enhance LMU’s high standards for graduation success, academic progress, and student-athlete experience.
5.Ensure compliance with NCAA, WCC, WIRA, WWPA, Title IX, and LMU rules and regulations.
6.Supervise the athletics staff, including coaches, in hiring, mentoring, evaluating, disciplining, or separation decisions.
7.Ensure that the department operates in a manner that values diversity, equity, inclusion and well-being for student-athletes, coaches, and staff.
8.Marshal and manage material, environmental, and human resources to ensure athletics staff, coaches, and student-athletes are competitive in conference and post-season play.
9.Lead all athletics fundraising through direct personal activity and engagement of athletics personnel, including coaches, with the university’s advancement team.
10.Represent LMU as its primary spokesperson for the intercollegiate athletics program. Work collaboratively with the university’s marketing, communications, and public relations team in developing and executing a plan for promoting athletics programs internally and externally, specifically enhancing exposure and awareness, fan attendance, and revenues for the department.
11.Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
• Minimum of ten years of progressive leadership experience in a winning, multifaceted enterprise in intercollegiate athletics or related field.
• History of highest ethical and moral standards.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated capacity to develop a strong and inclusive management team.
• Ability to articulate a clear vision for a winning athletics program to numerous constituency groups.
• Demonstrated commitment to developing champions who graduate in four years.
