Job Description
GMF Director
This role is the primary studio/control room director for the daily studio-based presence.
This role will work closely with the senior production team in NJ and the Coordinating Director who is based in Culver City.
This position will interface closely with graphics, music, set design, lighting and network operations to play a very significant role in the vision, creation, execution and ongoing template of our east coast based network studio look and feel.
The role seeks a calm, organized director who works well under pressure and treats co-workers with respect.
Essential Job Functions
• Well established with significant experience directing live studio sports programs at the network broadcast level.
• Entertainment directing experience a plus
• Must be creative and well-versed in visual effects as well as cutting edge studio technology
• Must learn all aspects and functions of the new studio space and work with producers to establish creative segment and show locations
Position Requirements:
• Direct live and/or recorded studio-based programs
• Lead technical directors, managers, crew members, etc. to discuss details of production, such as camera operations, script, music, sets, lighting, graphics, etc
• Establish pace of programs and sequences of scenes according to time requirements, talent and set accessibility. This would include collaborating on the daily production schedule
• Identify and approve equipment and elements required for productions, such as scenery, lights, props, etc
• Consult with writers, producers, or talent about script changes, etc. to create final drafts
• Study and research formats/scripts to determine how they should be directed as well as collaborate with the producers on their desired execution
Knowledge & Experience
• Knowledge of lighting, shot framing, camera blocking and sound engineering
• Experience with directing live multi- camera productions
• Solid knowledge base and experience managing production staff
• In-depth crew experience working in live TV
• Strong understanding of the organization's goals and objectives
• Strong remote production leadership skills at both editorial and practical levels
• Strong story-based journalistic instincts and skills and the ability to bring that out in others
• Experience creating, guiding and then reviewing each production for improvement and growth
• Strong knowledge of the NFL and the 32 teams
• High organizational skills
• Conduct meetings with staff to discuss production progress and to ensure production objectives are attained.
• Comfortable working within established budgetary parameters
• Resolve personnel problems that arise during the production process by acting as liaison between dissenting parties when necessary
• Must have ability to handle various tasks simultaneously, organize, prioritize, make decisions and work efficiently and effectively under deadlines
Formal Education & Certification
• College diploma or university degree in Film, Communications or TV directing and/or equivalent work experience
• 6+ years of live studio directing experience
