Union College, a highly selective liberal arts institution located in Schenectady, New York is accepting applications for the position of full time Athletics Communications Director. Union College sponsors 26 intercollegiate sports, 24 in Division III, with Ice Hockey competing at the Division I level.
Responsibilities
The director's responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, leading the execution of the PR strategy for the department, establishing relationships with local, regional and national media, publication design, game-day staffing, overseeing social media platforms, writing press releases, maintaining statistical records, web site management and budget management. Oversee, train and lead a full-time Assistant Athletics Communications Director, an hourly intern and several work study students.
Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree, master's degree preferred, with a minimum of three years successful athletics communications experience in a collegiate setting. The successful candidate will possess strong oral and written communication abilities, positive interpersonal skills, and demonstrable experience working collaboratively and exercising both discretion and sound judgement. The successful candidate will also exhibit a progressive and creative mentality in advancing traditional practices in a technological world, proficiency with desktop publishing and design software, knowledge of statistical programs, and web management experience. Candidates must be safety conscious, able to work with a diverse group of individuals while instilling these ideals in the sport communications team, and available to work weekends and nights when needed.
