General Description:
The Director of National Teams & High Performance for US Lacrosse is primarily responsible for providing strategic direction of the U.S. National Team program and reports directly to the Vice President of Lacrosse Operations. The NTHP Director is responsible for the development, management and results of all US Lacrosse national team initiatives and for the planning and execution of programs capable of developing athletes capable of success at the highest levels of international competition resulting in World Championships for USA.
Oversees all U.S. men’s and women’s senior and under-19 and indoor National Team activities, events and competitions. Leads development of National Team platform (events and properties) that increase Team USA and US Lacrosse brand visibility and creates opportunities for partnership integration and activation. Manages National Team department staff and serves as the primary staff liaison between the coaches and support staff representing the National Teams. Develops and maintains high-level relationships with key influencers within the sport, including athletes, coaches and industry leaders. Based at the US Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, MD, this position must work with other key staff and volunteers to accomplish goals and manage events. Significant travel and weekend/evening work is required.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
• Responsible for strategic development of National Team program and execution of associated events and properties within the platform.
• Serves as US Lacrosse’s expert and resource on High Performance in lacrosse; represents US Lacrosse and its National Team program to other leadership groups within lacrosse (ie: IMLCA, IWLCA, NCAA) and in the NGB space (USOC).
• Develops long and short-term plans for the National Teams program as a whole, each of the five individual teams.
• Oversee High Performance system development from the Lacrosse Athlete Development Model (ADM) through the US Lacrosse National Team Development Program (NTDP).
• Create consistency and synergy between each of the five teams and National Team Development Program.
• Oversee department budgets, maximizing revenue streams and limiting expenses.
• Works with USL Finance and Fundraising and Partnerships staff to establish team and program revenue goals, track progress, and identify areas to bolster efforts and increase asset integration.
• Coordinates coaching and support staff contract cycle of the National Team program, including engaging in regular reviews and feedback solicitation.
• Work with the Special Events department to manage all U.S. National Team-related event programming. Work with staff to assess quality and purpose, and to proactively seek out other quality training and competitive opportunities for the teams.
• Collaborate with Marketing and Communications Departments to develop individual team marketing/PR plans, and promote specific events through all available avenues.
• Serve as the primary liaison to the US Lacrosse High Performance Committee; lead placement/replacement cycles for volunteers including sub-committees and working groups.
• Extensive evening and weekend work and travel (domestic and international) is required.
• Perform other relevant tasks as assigned.
Required Skills, Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree preferred and/ or equivalent related work experience.
• A minimum of 5-7 years of mid-senior level work experience in sports marketing, NGB, high-performance, team administration is required.
• Marketing and promotion experience, with respect to athlete/ sport and team performance, special events with a national, collegiate or international reach/focus.
• Experience with building and implementing large-scale/ national events, programs and systems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to manage a number of projects and delegate effectively.
• Detail oriented and solid logistical and planning skills – special attention to quality control.
• Creative thinking and history of innovation.
• Demonstrated reliability and ability to perform under pressure.
• Exemplary analytical, strategic thinking and organizational skills.
• Experience managing and working with multiple staff members.
• Experience with budget development and management.
• Must have experience working with volunteers, athletes and coaches.
• Experience in sponsorship, communications and public relations.
• Familiarity with men’s and women’s lacrosse is highly desired.
• Coaching and/or Playing Experience at a Collegiate and/or Elite Level is highly desired.
• Proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs, and in web-based communications and social media.
• Must be able to successfully pass a USL Background Check screening (prior to hire date).
Work Conditions and Physical Requirements:
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions, including occasional extreme temperatures
• Lift and move boxes, supplies and equipment of 50-75lbs.
