The Director of Athletic Advancement is responsible for planning and implementing a comprehensive giving program for Kutztown University’s Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Department of Recreational Services. The director of athletic advancement will work collaboratively with the director of Athletics, assistant vice president of Recreational Services and Athletic Resources, and the entire coaching staff to serve as a strategic partner in promoting and building a culture of philanthropy for both departments. This position will also play a critical role as the KU Foundation embarks on a major comprehensive fundraising campaign in FY19. Duties & Responsibilities:
Create an annual plan designed to expand support for high priority Intercollegiate Athletics/Recreational projects and programs, collaborate effectively with the director of Athletics, AVP for Recreational Services, head coaches and foundation staff to identify major/annual giving opportunities, devise fundraising plans and broaden the financial support base by attracting new donors and by increasing commitments from existing supporters.
Identify and manage a portfolio of at least 125 major gift prospects which includes primarily individuals and corporations with specific affiliation and/or giving interest to the department of intercollegiate athletics and/or recreational services.
Conduct a minimum of 15 prospect visits per month.
Plan and implement major/annual gifts strategies; identify and evaluate potential donors; design and implement prospect cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies, including the coordination of monthly reports to the department heads to share with all coaches.
Implementation and/or coordination of a benefits program and thank you program for all athletic donors.
Collaborate with Annual Giving, Alumni Relations and Foundation Communications and Marketing teams to create mailings, athletic phonathons, e-solicitations and social media outreach to encourage engagement and giving to raise money for athletics and/or recreational services.
Implement annual corporate partnership campaign for Intercollegiate Athletics in cooperation with the Foundation Office and athletics director. This includes developing strategies for corporate partner renewal and identification and solicitation of new prospects.
Develop corporate partner packages by identifying campus advertising and marketing opportunities (i.e. game program ads, signage, radio/webcasting ads, Web banners, etc.) for area companies and businesses.
Maintain corporate partner accounts and contacts during the academic year. Work with appropriate sources to ensure advertising accuracy and placement in select venues, publications, broadcasts, etc.
Assist in the planning of athletic fundraising events, including Athletics Hall of Fame, reunions, golf outings, and potential fundraising events.
Review and approve all Athletic Department/Department of Recreational Services fund-raising activities and requests in conjunction with the athletics director and the AVP for Recreation Services.
Assist in the maintenance of athletic prospects in the Raiser’s Edge data base.
All other duties as assigned by the executive director and/or the senior director of Development.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of three to five years of relevant advancement/sales experience. Campaign experience a plus.
2. Excellent oral and written communications skills. Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals in a challenging environment.
3. Thorough knowledge of standard desktop software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
4. Ability to learn to use Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT.
In addition, candidates should have:
1. Ability to relate comfortably to alumni, parents and volunteers, as well as to faculty/staff members, administrators, coaches, students and other staff.
2. Demonstrate the ability to meet deadlines and manage several projects simultaneously.
3. An understanding of Kutztown University and the Kutztown University Foundation missions.
4. Requires presence on select nights and weekends throughout the academic year to coincide with the athletic and special event schedule.
