The Assistant Sports Information Director (SID) will assist with promoting Averett’s Department of Athletics, its NCAA sponsored sports and club sports to prospective students.
The Assistant SID will assist with game day operations for all home games and other events assigned to provide an inviting and exciting atmosphere for students, faculty, staff and the community.
This position will be supervised by the Sports Information Director This position will be considered a mid-level manager with supervisory and oversight of full- and part- time employees and students. This position will require collaboration with a wide range of mid-level managers in other units.
Primary Responsibilities
•Assist with coordination and execution of all media relations initiatives for the university’s department of athletics and its 16 athletics programs.
•Assist with coordination and execution all athletics game day operations, including statistics, broadcasting and media relations.
•Provide daily content and coverage of Averett on its website AverettCougars.com and social media platforms.
•Design and edit media guides and athletics promotional materials including posters and brochures.
•Assist with updates of all historical and statistical records for the university’s intercollegiate athletics program.
•Assist supervision of student employees and hourly employees.
Secondary Responsibilities
•Assist the director of athletics with assigned projects and marketing
•Assist the Department of Athletics in all operations and events assigned.
•Assist the university’s media relations through other duties assigned

Qualifications:
• Serves as an effective written and oral communicator across a broad spectrum of internal and external constituents.
• Oversee people
• Highly organized
• Highly motivated, energetic and able to manage a work schedule that includes some night and weekend work.
• Bachelor’s degree in sport management, communication, journalism, public relations or related field.
• 1-2 years of experience in a collegiate sports information office or comparable setting.
• Strong writing and editing skills, with knowledge of AP style.
• Knowledge of StatCrew software and sports sponsored by Averett.
• Experience in desktop publishing with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.
• Experience with video editing software (iMovie, Adobe Premiere, etc.)
• Knowledge of social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc.).
• Experience with photography and public address announcing/broadcasting.
• Valid driver’s license, vehicle, and a clear driving record required.
The employee may occasionally be required to move items weighing up to 25 pounds.
The employee may work irregular hours, nights, and weekends.
Some travel may be required, within Danville area, the region, and nationally.
