Stephens College is seeking an individual for the position of Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. The Stephens College Athletics Director is the visible and visionary leader of the Stars Athletics program. The Athletics Director serves as the primary face of the program that is in a critically important phase of growth and refinement. The ideal candidate must be ambitious, optimistic, articulate and prepared to assert the value and importance of athletics at a small, private women’s college.
The Athletics Director provides institutional leadership in collaborating with key stakeholders in the College (students, faculty and staff) and with alumnae, the community, and corporate partners and donors to forge an ambitious vision for excellence in athletics and academic performance. The Stephens College Athletics Program serves nearly 120 student-athletes and plays a vital role in student recruitment and retention. The Athletics Director’s leadership and engagement will be essential in developing and implementing a strategic direction and vision for the future to ensure continued success on the field of play, in the classroom and within the community.
Responsibilities:
•Provide strategic leadership for the athletics department while maintaining a visible and energetic presence within the campus community.
•Administer and supervise the athletics program consistent with the college’s mission and appropriate AMC conference and NAIA rules, including building a comprehensive and robust competition schedule.
•Collaborate with appropriate offices on effective enrollment management and scholarship strategies.
•Promote a culture of competitive and academic excellence for student athletes.
•Actively market and promote the College through events, committee involvement and public speaking opportunities.
•Understand and believe in character education as outlined in the NAIA Champions of Character program.
•Responsibly manage and oversee all aspects of the athletics department budget.
•Coordinate and provide appropriate administrative oversight for home events
•Hire, supervise and evaluate all full and part-time employees including coaching and administrative staff.
•Determine and administer employee work assignments such as coaching and non-instructional duties. ?
•Participate as a member of the Student Development staff in support of the mission of the College.
•Work with the College to foster alumni and community relationships.
•Plan and oversee all fundraising and development activities for athletics, including charitable gifts from alumnae, friends, corporations, and foundations. Coordinate all fundraising activities with the College’s Office of Institutional Advancement. ?
•Strategically develop summer camp programs designed to promote the College and Athletics programs.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; Master’s degree preferred.
• 3-5 years of demonstrated leadership experience required; success at the collegiate level preferred.
• Working knowledge and application of NAIA and American Midwest Conference rules and regulations.
• Ability to apply budgetary and fiscal planning techniques within financial constraints.
• Ability to provide administrative guidance within area of responsibility, providing direct training and supervision as needed.?
• Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions, and other outcomes.
• Strong skills in verbal and written communication, organization, multi-tasking, efficiency and customer service.
• Ability to work with a diverse constituency including students, parents, coaches, faculty, staff, administrators and outside contacts.
• Must meet and maintain Stephens Driver Qualification and Vehicle Safety Policy.
