Job Description
The Director, Officials Development shall oversee the department for Officials Development to include for all disciplines (Beach, Indoor, and Sitting). The Director will lead Officials Development operations, manage the departmental staff, oversee the budget, develop policies, procedures, support systems and operational programs that will effectively assist all areas of the programs and services. This position not only leads department activities but will also work actively at the level required to ensure the successful execution of duties. This position is located in Colorado Springs, CO.
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities include but are not necessarily limited to:
• Oversee the distribution of all USAV Officials Training Materials.
• Ensure testing and exam materials for all disciplines to include indoor referees, scorers and beach officials are updated and edited as needed - materials include exams, modules, clinics and training documents.
• Oversee USAV Officials camps and clinics programs.
• Oversee the application process, raters, certification & re-certification and selection at both the national and international level.
• Make all assignments at both the national and international level.
• Oversee Officials Development event management for domestic and international events which includes recruitment, selection, contracts, assignments, registration, housing, and other logistics.
• Serve as Chief Editor of the Domestic Competition Regulations (DCR) handbook
• Oversee the VolleyballRefTraining (VRT) Website
• In conjunction with the Director, E-Learning ensure all educational, training and testing & rating materials (beach, indoor & sitting) in the USAV Academy are ready for implementation on an annual basis in advance of the start of a new season.
• Serve as a liaison to the Officials’ Assembly, Administrative Council, PAVO and NCAA Officials Committees (beach & indoor)
• Ensure Independent Contractors service standards and contractual terms are established and adhered to
• Lead the Rules Commission and designated USAV Officials Commissions
• Solicit Feedback from Officials Development stakeholders regarding the quality and relevance of programs and services
• Other duties and projects as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
• Minimum BS/BA in sports management, related field or equivalent work experience
• Minimum 7 years of relevant experience
• Demonstrated supervisory experience
• Possess solid leadership skills with an ability to work effectively and accomplish tasks, projects, and goals through influencing others within a complex organizational structure
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to effectively use office computer programs
• Must be able to successfully pass a USAV background screening (prior to hire date)
• Must successfully complete SafeSport certification within two-weeks of hire date
Desired Qualification
• National level officiating experience
• International and/or multiple disciplinary officiating experience
• Strong understanding of sports and its functions within a complex structure both internationally and domestically
• Previous Regional Volleyball Association (RVA) or other USA Volleyball Affiliate Leadership experience
• Familiarity with database systems for registration, and E-Learning Management Systems (LMS)
Starting Salary -Commensurate with experience
