Wabash College is seeking a highly motivated Assistant Swimming Coach and Aquatics Director who will be involved in all areas of coaching and administering Wabash College’s historic Men’s Swimming program. The full-time position comes with health-care benefits. This is an exempt, non-faculty athletics instructional position.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The Assistant Swimming Coach and Aquatics Director reports to the Head Swimming Coach and is responsible for all areas of coaching, recruiting, and administering for our Division III Men’s Swimming and Diving program within the guidelines of the NCAA, NCAC, and the College, while also acting as the director of aquatics,
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
•Coaching: provide daily instruction for swimmers in the water and in dry-land training for all specialty groups. Workout writing will be a duty that evolves over time. Coaching and mentorship of athletes should follow and reinforce the plan and philosophy of the head coach. Assist in the monitoring of student-athletes academic progress.
•Planning: plan, organize, order, and execute team meals as needed, work with the Athletics Office in the planning and schedule-making for team travel, schedule pool use in the scheduling system and organize the schedule for swim lessons.
•Recruiting: maintain list of recruits reflecting the assigned territory and direction with consistent communication and building of relationships and contacts in a way the positively reflects the recruiting strategy of the program and College.
•Aquatics Director: hire, schedule and manage lifeguards, test pool chemicals daily, take water samples to the health department weekly, maintain the proper chemical level in the filtration system, manage the maintenance of a clean pool area, and coordinate an accurate lighting schedule with Campus Services. Coordinate activities through the Head Swimming Coach.
•Responsible for adhering to all policies and regulations of the Director of Athletics, College, NCAC and NCAA.
•Assist in marketing and promotion of the Wabash Natatorium and the College’s Swimming and Diving Program.
•Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Essential Functions
•Ability to effectively teach fundamentals, position details and strategies of Swimming during preparation and practice sessions.
•Ability to motivate teams to become successful.
•Ability to travel and recruit student athletes.
•Ability to learn and comply with all policies and regulations of the College, NCAC and NCAA.
•Ability to efficiently operate a personal computer and associated software (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
•Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately.
•Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
•Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations, the College community and the public.
•Ability to detect and correct grammatical and spelling errors in written correspondence.
•Ability to maintain files accurately, in paper and in software programs.
•Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
•Ability to achieve certification to drive student-athletes to team athletic events.
•Ability to scout opponents.
•Ability to work summer camps.
Required Minimum Qualifications
•Bachelor's degree.
•Competition and/or coaching experience at and established club program or collegiate level.
•Valid driver license.
•A proven record of integrity, high principles and demonstrated skill in developing and motivating student athletes academically and athletically.
•A background check will be required of the successful applicant.
