Job Description
The Director, Development is a regular full-time position reporting directly to the CEO and works closely with the USA Volleyball Foundation (USAVF) Board of Directors. The incumbent works jointly with the USAVF Chair in carrying out the Foundation mission. In addition, the position is responsible for: leading philanthropic gifting for USA Volleyball; creating and delivering a comprehensive successful Development strategic plan; launching new fundraising events, programs, and campaigns and increasing engagement with current members, alumni, donors, and fans. The position is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Extensive hours may be required to include, nights and weekends. Moderate travel is necessary.
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities include but are not necessarily limited to:
• Direct development initiatives to achieve sustainable increases in donor participation, philanthropic support, and gifting
• Establish a Gift Operating Plan, including a compelling case for support and short- and long-term goals in alignment with the mission and strategy of USAVF
• Oversee the creation and execution of development programs
• Lead research, cultivation, and stewardship of major gifts via broad-based solicitation activities
• Measure, monitor, and track outcomes using appropriate criteria to produce accurate budget preparations and project fundraising activities
• Liaise with the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) to ensure consistent alignment with and in movement messaging
• Drive fundraising initiatives in partnership with USAVF Board Members
• Generate Development content for both internal and external audiences across various platforms
• Research corporate grant agencies and foundations to identify development best practices and prospective funding partnerships
• Manage the acknowledgment process, recognition programs, and donor database
• Serve as an ambassador for USAV sharing and conveying the Organization / sport’s story
• Other duties and projects as assigned
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree or Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) preferred
• Minimum of seven (7) years of fundraising or equivalent experience with demonstrated success in donor cultivation, solicitation and maintaining relationships with individuals, foundations, and corporations
• Experience engaging a leadership team, coordinating with staff, and working with Boards and volunteers
• Solid knowledge of fundraising and foundation management Best Practices and ethics
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Self-starter who can formulate strategy and execute independently
• Ability to prioritize and manage a number of different projects simultaneously
• Excellent research and organizational skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word Suite, database and fundraising software applications
• Must be able to successfully pass a USAV background screening (prior to hire date)
• Must successfully complete SafeSport certification within two-weeks of hire date
