The Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Campus Recreation is part of the senior leadership enrollment management team at Gettysburg College. The successful candidate will bring to Gettysburg exceptional leadership and management skills, significant knowledge of intercollegiate athletics, collegiate coaching experience, competitive drive and a passion for the value of Division III collegiate athletics.
Gettysburg College sponsors 24 varsity sports: 12 for men and 12 for woman, that compete at the NCAA Division III intercollegiate level. Gettysburg is one of the founding members of the Centennial Conference, one of the premier conferences for Division III athletics. The conference is home to some of the finest liberal arts colleges in the country, all of which are committed to excellence in academics and athletics. Gettysburg teams have earned the College a reputation as a consistent winner. Gettysburg became the first school to win 100 conference titles in 2015. The Women’s Lacrosse team has won two NCAA Championships.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Vice President of Enrollment and Educational services, the Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics leads with vision and direction in all aspects of the College’s competitive NCAA Division III program.
The Executive Director is responsible for the administration and supervision of all aspects of intercollegiate athletics and campus recreation at Gettysburg College including developing and balancing budgets, overseeing professional and coaching staffs, working collaboratively with a highly successful Orange & Blue Club fundraising effort, recruiting athletes, facilities, strategic planning and advising a high level of integration of the athletic program into the student experience.
The Executive Director is also responsible for ensuring strict compliance with NCAA values and regulations as well as applicable conference rules. It is expected that the Executive Director will build and maintain collaborative and positive relationships with the Enrollment & Educational Services division as well as with Academic Affairs; College Life; and Development, Alumni and Parent Relations.
Departmental Leadership
• Provides leadership to the department to enable the highest level of educational experience.
• Continues a culture of excellence on and off the field.
• Represents the College at conference and association meetings.
• Ensures compliance with NCAA, Centennial Conference and Gettysburg College policies and regulations.
• Provides strategic vision and leadership for the Intercollegiate Athletic and Campus Recreation program.
• Works with the athletic training and sports therapy directors to ensure that student athletes are provided with appropriate support for athletic injuries and ensure best practices on the treatment and prevention of sports related injuries.
• Works collaboratively across campus to assure student athletes well-being and supports the strategic vision of the College.
External and Public Relations
• Works collaboratively with the Director of the Orange and Blue Club to increase fundraising goals for athletics.
• Oversees the athletic communications areas assuring that the intercollegiate sports marketing efforts are successful marketing and media relations plan.
• Establishes and maintains positive relationship with the parent and alumni community.
Administrative
• Leads and supervises the operation of the entire athletic program consisting of 24 sports.
• Hires, evaluates and provides professional development opportunities for staff.
• Prepares, administers and oversees the athletic department budget.
• Assure the maintenance of current facilities and recommends facility enhancements.
• Works collaboratively with the Office of Admissions to recruit the best student athletes for all sports.
• Promotes and ensures gender equity and diversity as part of the College’s inclusivity efforts.
• Oversight of equipment room, including departmental purchasing agent.
• Experience with Game Day Operations and Administration.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor’s Degree. Master’s degree preferred with 8-10 years of progressive leadership and management experience of a collegiate level athletic department. Coaching experience on the collegiate level is desired. The candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of intercollegiate athletic administration, student-athlete development and NCAA compliance. The new Executive Director will possess a genuine understanding and a commitment to Division III Intercollegiate Athletics philosophy. The Executive Director will be expected to recruit and develop outstanding staff and coaches, will possess an enthusiasm for institutional advancement efforts and have in-depth knowledge of current issues and best practices in higher education and intercollegiate athletics.
