The Athletic Director will lead UWRF’s Division III intercollegiate athletic program that supports 17 sports with over 400 student-athletes. Reporting to the Chancellor, the Athletic Director provides vision, coordination and oversight for the UW-River Falls’ nationally competitive NCAA Division III Intercollegiate Athletics program.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
•Provide leadership, vision and administrative direction for a program that includes 17 intercollegiate sports with over 400 student athletes
•Implement the department’s strategic plan and contribute to the UWRF Strategic Plan
•Advance and execute fundraising, corporate sponsorship, promotions and marketing activities
•Develop, manage, and ensure compliance with budget policies and procedures of an approximately $2.5 million budget that includes revenues from state allocations, student fees, generated revenue and donations.
•Commits to gender equity, affirmative action and title IX; works to provide equal opportunities for members of all genders to participate in intercollegiate athletics following guidelines set forth to Title IX and OCR.
•Oversee the recruitment, hiring, supervision, mentoring, and/or evaluation of approximately 40 full and part-time coaches, administrative and support staff, volunteers and student employees.
•Develop processes and policies to enhance department resources
•Provide oversight of compliance with NCAA and WIAC rules, and state and federal laws working in conjunction with the WIAC Commissioner and office
•Work collaboratively with the Chair of the Health & Human Performance Department, the leaders of Campus Recreation, Admissions and New Student and Family Programs, Facilities Management, Student Affairs, and Financial Aid, Registrar and other key University administrators
•Work in conjunction with Falcon Center Operations to oversee the university’s athletic facilities and long-range facility planning
•Prioritize the measurable academic success of student athletes, including their retention and graduation, through focused efforts including collaboration with university services to support the social, physical, emotional, and intellectual development of student athletes •Actively support diversity and inclusivity efforts, both at the departmental and university level.
•Work with the Director of University Communications and the Sports Information Director(s) to market and promote Falcon Athletics •Supervise the athletic trainers to provide a comprehensive program of prevention and rehabilitation for student athletes
•Encourage and create an atmosphere of sportsmanship, professionalism, collaboration and respect among the staff, coaches and student-athletes within the department
•Create an atmosphere of collaboration that allows students to develop academically, athletically, professionally and personally.
•Fulfill weekend and evening obligations
•Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Chancellor

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Master’s degree
• Minimum of 3 years administrative experience which may include coaching responsibilities. Must include supervision of employees and budgetary experience.
• Demonstrable understanding of NCAA Division III rules and regulations and Title IX compliance
• Minimum of 2 years experience working in higher education.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Master’s degree in athletic administration, physical education, sports business, or related discipline
• Thorough understanding of the mission and role of Division IIIathletics in an educational setting
• Demonstrable ability to support the whole student athlete experience
• Demonstrable effectiveness in written communication, computer, and public speaking skills
• Proven track record in communicating with athletes, staff and relevant constituencies to promote collegiality and collaboration.
• Collegiate level athletic administration experience
• Coaching experience at the collegiate level
• Proven track record of programmatic promotion and marketing
• Evidence of successful fund raising
