GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
To provide individual counseling, crisis intervention, and consultation to student-athletes; provide educational workshops such as leadership development, team building and mental skills training; and consult with other university offices/community resources to aid in the student-athlete's academic success and retention.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Provide psychological services with a secondary focus of assisting student-athletes to enhance their athletic performance:
•Provide individual counseling, crisis intervention, and consultation to student athletes.
•Provide educational workshops such as leadership development, team building and mental skills training.
•Oversee mental health services for student-athletes, which includes referring student-athletes to campus Counseling Services and/or referring to other campus or community resources.
•Consult with other university offices/community resources to aid in the student-athlete’s academic success and retention. •Collaborate with KSA’s medical staff; provide consultation for the treatment of injured athletes.
•Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• Master’s Degree in social work, psychology, counseling or related field.
• Three years of clinical practice working with college population.
• Strong clinical assessment and crisis intervention experience and skills.
• A proven track record of providing services within a brief–therapy model
• Experience collaborating with medical professionals (sports medicine, psychiatrist, athletic trainer).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and analytical skills.
• Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
• Doctorate in counseling or clinical psychology
• Graduation from APA accredited doctoral program and completion of APA accredited internship
• Certified consultant-AASP
• Post-graduate experience and shall be licensed as a psychologist in the State of Kansas within six months of hire date.
• Ability to work with medical providers for integrated, collaborative and comprehensive medical and health care.
• Experience in a university counseling center is strongly preferred.
• Successful candidates will be multi-culturally affirming with demonstrated competence in working with a diverse student-athlete population.
• Experience working with NCAA Division 1 athletic departments.
