Shenandoah University, a Division III institution in the beautiful northern Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, is seeking applicants for the position of Athletic Director. Shenandoah is a full member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, with 21 varsity sports and 32 full-time staff members. This is a full-time, 12-month position with a competitive salary and benefits to begin in early 2018. The successful candidate will inherit a department characterized by strong academics, robust relationships with faculty and staff around campus, and a commitment to community service. A bachelor’s degree is required, with a master’s degree, coaching experience and prior collegiate athletic administrative experience preferred. In addition, the successful candidate should have extensive knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
Position reports directly to the president and works closely with the university’s vice presidents.
The Athletic Director will be the strongest advocate and voice for all athletic programs and must possess a commitment to academic excellence, sportsmanship and the philosophy of Division III. In addition to overseeing the departmental budget and all NCAA and ODAC regulations, the AD will be directly responsible for mentoring coaches, recruiting, hiring, training, evaluating, and leading all athletic department staff members. Also, the Athletic Director will be actively involved in fundraising in cooperation with the Office of Advancement and have a strong presence in the Shenandoah as well as the Winchester communities; in particular, s/he will have the opportunity to strengthen the SU Athletic Hall of Fame, SU Hornet Club, and SU alumni support.
