The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, an NCAA Division I institution and member of the Southern Conference, invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Athletic Communications/Graphic Design & Social Media Manager in the Athletic Department. The successful candidate for this position will be part of the external operations team and will:
Serve as the primary graphic designer and social media manager for The Citadel’s athletic communications office and athletic department.
Plan and execute comprehensive social media strategies and content for Citadel athletic social media accounts.
Design graphics for official athletics website, athletics social media, and athletic marketing & promotional print materials (posters, schedule cards, etc.)
Create graphic templates as needed
Collaborate with the external operations team to conceptualize, create and distribute strategic and cutting-edge content inclusive of graphics, video and digital assets.
Serve as the primary liaison to the media and ensure the timely dissemination of accurate information, including news releases, event results and statistics for the varsity Rifle program.
Work with the Rifle coaches to conceptualize, design, produce and distribute print, electronic and video material (such as record books, recruitment publications, game programs, and email updates)
Write and edit Rifle program news releases, game notes and feature releases; Maintain and update Rifle record books; Manage Rifle team roster, statistics, records and photo archives.
Oversee and provide content management for The Citadel athletic social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.) with a strong emphasis on in-game content to maximize coverage, interaction and growth.
Work with individual sport programs and areas with athletic department to design, promote and coordinate content and messaging as needed.
Assist in managing of The Citadel’s official athletics website (citadelsports.com), and assist the Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communications with liaison responsibilities with the athletic department’s website provider (SIDEARM Sports).
Serve as a member of the athletic communications game-day operations staff in a support role as needed.
Create special design requests as assigned.
Be responsible for meeting deadlines and coordinating multiple tasks effectively and efficiently.
Be responsible for understanding and adhering to all Citadel, Southern Conference and NCAA rules and regulations.
Be self-motivated, have knowledge and strong interest in college athletics, game production, social media and digital marketing.
Be expected to personify The Citadel’s core values of Honor, Duty and Respect.
Be required to attend games and events and work extended hours, including occasional nights, weekends and holidays
Occasional travel may be required in order to perform assigned job functions.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, graphic design or related field.
Experience in web design and professional utilization of social media.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign and Photoshop.
Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Knowledge and experience in management of athletic web pages and NCAA statistical data and reporting systems, including automated StatCrew software.
Social media experience, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Preferred qualifications:
Experience as a graphic designer in a professional or college sports setting
