The employee will be the primary media contact for select varsity sports; manages all interaction between members of the media and the assigned programs; serves as official communication channel for assigned varsity sports; effectively communicates with local, hometown and national media; manages publication production timelines, web development requests and department social media channels; coordinate the recruitment, organization and supervision of game day staff for assigned sports. Act as sport supervisor for select sport(s), as assigned by the Director of Athletics. Comply fully with all NCAA, conference, and university rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Direct and manage the daily operations and media activities for assigned sports. Develop and manage relationships with members of the media and assigned programs. Effectively communicate with national, local and hometown members of the media. Advises athletes, coaches, and staff on communication with media. Oversee all publication production timelines and approve all assigned program publications, including media supplements, press releases, and hometown features for assigned sports. Assign all web development requests made of assigned programs.
• Produce, edit and disseminate assigned program press releases. Update and regularly enhance the department website: www.iupuijags.com. Oversee, lay out and edit select athletic department publications. Manage content for athletics department social media channels.
• Manages entire media operation for select IUPUI hosted athletics events and tournaments. Coordinate the recruitment, organization and supervision of game day staff for assigned sports. Effectively operate all statistics programs to compile and maintain accurate statistics and records for assigned sports. Oversee the distribution of credentials for assigned athletic department events. Travel with assigned sports and assist in the coordination of student-athlete, coach and staff travel to media events.
• Supervise varsity sport program(s), as assigned by the Director of Athletics. Provide sport administration oversight, leadership and supervision to all persons in the assigned sport(s); assess and evaluate operations and personnel performance in the assigned sport(s); assist in the preparation and monitoring of budgets in the assigned sport(s). May be required to travel to conference and NCAA championship for assigned sport(s).
• Perform other duties incidental to the work described herein.
REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Sports Management, or a related field, plus 1 year of experience in Sports Information, Media Relations, or a related field. Must have a high level of proficiency in desktop publishing and web service.
