Description of Position:
This position will be responsible for the oversight and management of the outbound tickets sales team, ticket operations including all ticket sales related to the department’s Endowment Seating Program (ESP), customer service/customer retention, and marketing for Cal Athletics. This position will be expected to develop ticket sales goals, manage the ticket sales budget, and strategize ways to sales. A key responsibility will be managing the Department’s relationship with our multi-media rights partners, Learfield, and managing the relationship with our apparel partner Under Armour. The position is also tasked with business development and creating new forms of revenue.
This position oversees the sales and customer service/retention strategy, which is designed to exceed set goals in annual ticket sales revenue. Responsibilities also include the development of marketing plans, advertising strategy, media buying, outbound sales staff efforts, in bound sales plans, social media and database marketing. This position will also oversee CRM and Data Analytics for the Department, including the analysis of identified constituencies/audiences and the development of programs, services, and outreach to meet identified needs and influence public perception. Furthermore, this position will develop and manage customer service programs designed to improve customer sales retention and deliver consistently positive service to various stakeholders both internal and external.
Responsibilities:
• Manage and lead the daily operations of Ticket Sales, Ticket Service/Operations, Marketing and Customer Service & Retention units with the goal of generating ticket revenue and providing great customer service to our patrons.
• Manage and lead ESP sales and the premium sales team. Evaluate the Endowment Seating Program and make recommendations for maximization of sales revenue in the three clubs at Cal Memorial Stadium (CMS).
• Work with the Senior Associate Athletic Director/Chief Operating Officer to maximize revenue from CMS facilities through leases and rentals.
• Develop marketing and sales plans designed to increase attendance at events as well as ticket revenue.
• Manage the relationships with our multi-media rights partners, Learfield, and our apparel contract providers, Under Armour.
• Oversee advertising strategy and media buys, including radio, television, print, and internet. Work with Creative Services unit to develop advertising materials.
• Responsible for business development and creating new revenue opportunities.
• Provide comprehensive personnel administration including recruiting, hiring, training, evaluating and as required taking corrective action with subordinate supervisors and other relevant positions. Conduct regular staff meetings with full-time staff.
• Oversee research initiatives; including the planning, composition and implementation of written surveys, focus groups and telephone surveys for learn more about our ticket patrons.
• Ensure that all units work collaboratively with the Ticket Operations staff tasked with maintaining a customer friendly and efficient ticketing system needed for in person, phone, and internet ticket sales ordering.
• Implement customer service plans with ticket sales and ticket operations staff designed to improve the customer experience and retention of customers.
• Work with other external unit professionals and the Business and Finance unit to prepare sales forecasting reports and provide analysis and recommendations to upper management.
• Work with other external (Development, Athletic Communications) professionals and contribute ideas in developing long and short term strategic plans.
• In consultation with management, prepare and monitor annual budget for operations expenses as well as projected revenues from ticket sales.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in related area or equivalent training/experience.
• Strong knowledge of current and emerging industry requirements and best practices in areas of Ticket Sales, Ticket Operations, Customer Service, Marketing, and Revenue generation.
• Strong skill in strategic planning, to effectively organize resources, establish priorities, and achieve desired results.
• Strong skill in leading and managing staff including selection, training, evaluating and mentoring staff at all organizational levels; skill in taking corrective action with staff as required.
• Strong interpersonal communication and political acumen skills, including advanced skills to effectively represent the campus with other internal and/or external constituencies.
• Strong market research, analytical, and problem recognition/avoidance/resolution skills.
• Strong skills to produce results and achieve predetermined goals within budget and time constraints.
• Strong knowledge of applicable campus policies and state and federal laws regarding copyright and other licensing issues.
• Leadership/management experience, including skills to lead, direct, mentor, evaluate and motivate staff.
• Knowledge of applicable NCAA and Pac-12 rules and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Advanced degree in a related field.
• Experience working in marketing/ticket sales/ticket operations management within in intercollegiate athletic environment.
