Reporting to the Assistant Athletics Director for Development and in consultation with the Vice President for Development, Constituency Programs, the Director of Major Gifts is a professional fundraising position responsible for managing the Athletics Development major gift program. The Director of Major Gifts identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards a targeted portfolio of priority fundraising prospects in concert with Athletics’ strategic priorities and objectives. This position works closely with Central Development and athletic leadership to identify prospective donors, cultivate donor relationships, and solicit donations or gifts from individuals, corporations, or foundations. The position markets and promotes all athletics activities, including athletic contests and special events.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Coordinates the major gifts fundraising program for Athletics. Proactively identifies and assesses new university prospects as potential donors and/or volunteer leaders. Develops a major gift prospect pipeline and creates, manages, and advances effective relationships with assigned prospects toward the goal of appropriate solicitation. Maintains a monthly level of 15 actual or facilitated appointments or significant prospect moves. Identifies, cultivates, stewards, and solicits donors, both for major gifts and significant annual fund gifts. Briefs the Assistant Athletics Director for Development and other senior leadership on donor solicitations, and provides direction and resources as it relates to fundraising activities. (60%)
2. Oversees day-to-day development initiatives related to major gift fundraising, special projects and special events. Works with the athletic development team to establish departmental development goals, program and strategies. Monitors activities to determine effectiveness and maximize contributions. Coordinates fundraising efforts with the Assistant Athletic Director for Development, Vice President of Development, Constituency Programs and central development. (20%)
3. Works with the athletic development staff and the Office of Donor Relations and Special Events to develop stewardship plans for our major gift donors. Monitors activities to determine effectiveness and maximize contributions. (10%)
4. NCAA Related: Ensures that all Department of Athletics and University related activities operate in full compliance with university, conference and NCAA rules and regulations. Attends and participates in scheduled compliance seminars and complies with all the Athletic Department’s efforts to monitor compliance with NCAA regulations. Seeks interpretations from the compliance staff before acting when necessary. Reports potential rules violations immediately. Completes required compliance paperwork in a timely and efficient manner. Monitors all of their areas and/or programs activities closely to maintain compliance with applicable rules and regulations. (5%)

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES TYPICALLY NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS JOB SUCCESSFULLY:
1. Bachelor’s degree and 3 years direct fundraising or related experience in the solicitation and closing of gifts of $100K+ preferably in intercollegiate athletics at the NCAA Division I-A level. Transferable, related experience such as marketing, admissions, public relations, alumni relations, trust officer, or sales may be considered ORA high school diploma or equivalent and 9 years direct experience.

9. Availability to work flexible work schedule including nights and weekends
10. Extensive travel
11. Thorough knowledge of NCAA and American conference rules and regulations
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master’s degree
2. Commitment to the values of an institution of higher education
3. Knowledge of various software systems, such as Word, Excel, and Access
