It is the responsibility of the assistant sports information director to support the sports information director in leading a successful multimedia department covering twelve NCAA Division II sport programs. Excellence in each area will be attained through building relationships with local media, accurate statistical compilation and record keeping, and promotion of all athletic department activities including game recaps, press releases and special features.
The assistant sports information director shall perform all duties pertaining to her/his position as assigned by the sports information director.
Duties include but are not limited to:
•Statistical compilation and record keeping: Generate, compile, distribute and maintain game statistics for all teams. Maintain historical records and photos for all teams Responsible to distribute and post statistics to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) and the institutional athletic website
•Written Media Coverage: Responsible for production and distribution of all game recaps, press releases and special features including distribution to the institutional athletic website, social media channels, local media and conference office.
•Student-Athlete Recognition: Must nominate student-athletes for various weekly and annual awards. Will also serve on voting and ranking committees both at the conference, regional and national level.
•Social Media: Responsible for the production of all social media content. Assist the sports information director in navigating the rapidly changing world of communications and in positioning the department to take advantage of social media opportunities through video and other emerging mediums. Will also promote and publicize all aspects of Regis Athletics through designated social media platforms.
•Promote the brand of the Athletic Department and Regis University: Assist the sports information director in elevating the profile of Regis University and the athletic department to both internal and external audiences. Assistant sports information director should participate in Athletic Department and University sponsored events and initiatives. Additionally, assistant director will serve in integral role in organizing and planning special events such as luncheons, banquets, Hall of Fame, Legacy Weekend, etc.
•Design: Assist in implementing and designing graphics including but not limited promotional fliers, splash pages, schedule posters, media guides and game programs.
•Hire and Supervise Staff: Responsible for the hiring, training, and scheduling 18 student employees for all home athletic events under the director of the sports information director. The assistant sports information director is also responsible to serve as a mentor for graduate assistants as they grow in their profession.
•Professional development: Must engage in professional development. Assistant sports information director is responsible for keeping up with the current trends and developments; as well as the implementation in order to perform duties more effectively. Additionally, the assistant sports information director must attend pertinent professional opportunities including but not limited to CoSIDA, RMAC and NCAA meetings;
•Fundraise for the Athletic Department: Required to fully participate in department fundraising activities, fundraising events, university campaigns and special project campaigns; this includes producing content necessary for aforementioned fundraising activities.
•Create an atmosphere of compliance: Know, recognize, and comply with the laws, policies, rules, and regulations governing of the NCAA, the RMAC and the Regis Athletic Department. Supervise and ensure that any assistants, student-athletes, and any other employees and/or volunteers for whom you are administratively responsible comply with the aforesaid policies, rules and regulations. Immediately advise the Regis compliance director if you have reasonable cause to believe violations, whether by employees or students, have occurred or will occur.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree
• 2 years experience with working in sports information field
• Experience with StatCrew
• Experience working with content management systems such as SIDEARM or PrestoSports
• Proven ability to write press releases and feature stories
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with Adobe Photoshop
• Experience with Adobe InDesign
• Experience managing content for various social media channels
• Ability to multi-task
• Ability to work efficiently in an environment with various distractions and interruptions
NOTES:
Additional Salary Information: 10 month position with full University benefits included. Guaranteed 40 hours per week with the opportunity of overtime when necessary.
