Seattle University is a highly selective, independent, Catholic, Jesuit institution adjacent to downtown Seattle, and is seeking a dynamic and proven athletics department professional to serve as its Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Fan Experience.
Located on Capitol Hill, one of Seattle's most vibrant neighborhoods, Seattle University is one of 28 Jesuit colleges and universities in the United States and currently enrolls more than 7,400 graduate and undergraduate students within nine schools and colleges. Seattle University is among the most diverse independent universities in the West: 40 percent of its students are from ethnically diverse backgrounds and students come from 77 nations and all 50 states. Seattle University employs approximately 1,500 faculty and staff and has an annual operating budget of over $210M.
The university's athletic program fields 20 Division I intercollegiate teams (9 men's and 11 women's) and is comprised of more than 320 student athletes. The Redhawks, Seattle University's athletic teams, compete in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) in all sports and have an excellent track record of achievement both on the field and court and in the classroom. In the five years with the WAC, the Redhawk teams have a combined 31 WAC conference titles, including both team and individual championships.
GENERAL PURPOSE
The Assistant AD for Marketing and Fan Experience will play an integral role working closely with the Senior Associate AD for External Relations in developing, coordinating and executing a comprehensive strategic plan for Seattle University Athletics, with a focus on men's basketball, to increase ticket sales, drive attendance and create a memorable and exciting fan experience while fostering innovative and collaborative efforts to engage students, staff, alumni sponsor, donors and prospective fans of Seattle U Athletics.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general guidance and direction of the Senior Associate AD for External Relations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Marketing and Promotions Direction (25%)
Directs all marketing and promotion efforts for Seattle University's 20 varsity sports. Prepares marketing plans, conducts meetings with coaches and works directly with other departments to ensure success. Updates marketing content on social networks, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. Collaborate with communications staff to ensure all digital and print collateral, and videoboard and in-game elements are visually then thematically consistent with departmental and university brand standards. Works as game-day director at all ticketed events.
Community and Campus Outreach and Engagement (25%)
Community: Implement community outreach programming to strategically develop support for athletic events. Solicit group ticket sales and fan experience packages.
Campus: Develop and implement initiatives to increase student attendance and engagement at athletic events while working closely with Student Development, Resident Life and Alumni Association.
Fan Experience (20%)
Responsible for fan experience at all ticketed athletics home events. Coordinates with communications, game operations/event management and tickets to ensure that the fan experience is a priority at all events. Create unique in-game fan experiences that add value to patrons in attendance while creating a home-field advantage for student-athletes. Plan, direct and execute game production efforts for ticketed sports including creation of game scripts, music/band, promotions, video, cheer/dance/mascot, PA announcer, stage managers and on-court presentations. Book national anthem performers, halftime acts and serves as point person for special recognitions.
Corporate Sponsorship Activation (15%)
In collaboration with the Assistant AD for Corporate Relations, ensure activation and fulfillment of all sponsorship agreements. Develop new marketing and development strategies to identify new revenue streams and available inventory to sell to sponsors.
Supervision and Budget (15%)
Supervises Marketing Graduate Assistants and marketing student interns (Flight Squad). Manages the department's Cheer/Dance, Mascot, Band and Drumline. Primary contact for Kids Club. Manages the day-to-day marketing budget. Possible sport administration responsibilities.
Qualifications
Training and Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree required in marketing, business, sports marketing, sports administration or a related field. Minimum of three (3) years of combined professional experience in marketing, promotions or events. Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop and InDesign). Strong leader and mentor skills, particularly with college students. Must be able to work a flexible schedule; evenings and weekends are required. Compliance with the rules and regulations of Seattle University, the NCAA, Western Athletic Conference and any other governing body of importance to the University.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of video technology, video editing, Click Effects, Tricaster and related videoboard production software preferred. Experience working in Division I college athletics department.
