Director of Development, Department of AthleticsThe Ohio State UniversityColumbus, OHPosition OverviewThe Ohio State Department of Athletics is seeking an experienced athletics fundraiser to secure major gifts in support of the department’s and university’s mission. Excitement is building for our new master plan for the Athletics District and the Director of Development will play a key role on the team that brings it to fruition.
Reporting to the Senior Associate Athletics Director, the Director of Development will bring a proven track record of building strong relationships with athletics donors and raising major gifts on behalf of a large athletic department. A creative, aggressive and collaborative fundraiser who wants to be part of something truly special in a unique environment is encouraged to bring their professionalism, energy and enthusiasm to this role.
Performance Objectives:
During the first 3-6 months:
•Build trusting relationships with athletics and advancement colleagues as well as athletics leadership, prospects, donors and volunteers.
•Learn the department’s vision and master plan.
•Develop and implement lead generation strategies to identify major gift prospects.
•Begin work towards meeting performance goals/metrics. Annual fundraising goals will eventually target the following in order to raise annual dollar goals (to be determined): 120 prospect and donor meetings; 12 major gifts solicitations ($100,000 and above).
During the first 6-12 months:
•Implement lead generation and cultivation strategies.
•Establish and implement major gift solicitation strategies for portfolio.
•Establish stewardship strategies to acknowledge and recognize donors.

Director Requirements:The successful candidate will have a minimum of three years of successful experience in major gift fundraising ($25,000 asks and above). Experience in athletics fundraising is preferred. Applicants must be strong relationship-builders with interpersonal savvy and possess the ability to navigate a complex, high-performing environment. Candidates should be a highly motivated self-starters who can travel (often overnight) approximately 50% of the time.
