Athletics Recruitment #: S1506 Closing Date: Review of applications begins immediately. Position is open until filled. This is a full-time, 12-month, annually renewable, unclassified position in the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at Western Oregon University in Monmouth. The Athletics department encompasses thirteen athletic sport programs with a staff consisting of approximately 30 full-time and 25 part-time staff.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Plan, develop, and implement strategies and programs to maintain and increase media exposure for all varsity sport programs
• Serve as the WOU, GNAC, and NCAA designated Sports Information Director
• Coordinate specified media responsibilities for the WOU Athletics, athletic-related and special events press releases, press conferences, social media, statistics, media and information guides and game programs; manage athletic communication for accuracy
• Prepare publication related materials and work to secure publications bid and coordination
• Collaborate with Video Production Services for video streaming, video clips on the Athletics webpage, and provide weekly interviews of coaches and student-athletes on the online Wolves weekly broadcast
• Work collaboratively with other relevant University departments on all athletic-related news stories and events; work with University Communications to increase media exposure for all varsity sports programs
• Compile and maintain record books and statistics for each sport in order to ensure accurate statistical and historical data for the department. Compute and disseminate statistics to media and teams
• Compute and disseminate statistics to media, teams, GNAC, and NCAA
• Perform and manage game related duties including but not limited to: set up of press box and or/ score tables, including all statistical equipment and operations, public address announcer, dissemination of stats during and after contest; coordinate interviews
• Manage the official athletics website, www.wouwolves.com , the online Athletics merchandise store, and all Athletics social media accounts. Continue to look for new ways to connect with audiences through online mediums.
• Work in coordination with Athletic Director, Athletics Marketing & Promotions and Athletics Department to create and manage campaigns to increase exposure, game day experience, ticket sales, and revenue across the department
• Hire and train all statistical personnel, spotters, and public announcers for all competitions
• Budget preparation and adherence for unit
• Demonstrate knowledge, understanding, and commitment to compliance with Western Oregon University, NCAA, and GNAC policies, rules, and regulations

Standards for ethical conduct for Athletic Department staff are established and enforced by the Athletic Director, the University, the State of Oregon, the State Board of Higher Education, the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, and the NCAA.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree
• Minimum two years in media relations
• Demonstrated experience in Stat Crew systems software
• Proven computer experience (Macintosh or PC), spreadsheet/database applications (Microsoft Excel, Access or FileMaker), word processing applications (i.e. Microsoft Word, or Word Perfect), desktop publishing software (i.e. Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, or Quark Xpress)
• Demonstrated experience administering various social media platforms (i.e. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Vine, etc.)
• Excellent professional/interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, organization, editing ability and knowledge of AP style
• Demonstrated abilities in publishing, graphic design, website design, and social and new media skills
• Strong managerial skills with the ability to interact effectively with various campus and outside constituencies
• Specific experiences related to at least two of the following areas: communications, ticketing, marketing, promotions, event management, licensing, and/or merchandising
• Demonstrated commitment to the total welfare of student-athletes
• Thorough knowledge of NCAA and conference rules and regulations
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s degree with four years related work experience in Division I or II media relations with specific experience related to at least two but preferable several of the following areas: communications, ticketing, marketing, promotions, event management, licensing, and/or merchandising
• Supervisory experience
• Experience developing a comprehensive communication/branding strategy
