Claremont McKenna-Harvey Mudd-Scripps Colleges (CMS) Athletics is seeking an experienced Sports Information Director (SID) with a vast knowledge and appreciation for a wide-variety of sports. The SID will strategically promote CMS Athletics teams, student-athletes and coaches in a balanced manner to the local and national media, fans, parents, alumni, recruits, and the community. The SID is expected to be the liaison between CMS and the conference office, media, the NCAA, and other departments on campus.
The successful candidate will be creative, organized, detail-oriented, innovative, and have experience working under pressure, while balancing multiple projects and deadlines. Candidates must have excellent writing, public relations, marketing, and games management skills (statistics, etc.), and a background in supervising a small team (student workers, part-time assistants and freelancers). The ability to create engaging video and social media content is an important part of the position, along with oversight of CMS’ live stream broadcasting efforts.
Reporting directly to the Director of Athletics (AD), the SID will be responsible for the following:
• Liaison between CMS, SCIAC, local and national media, and the NCAA.
• Coordinate all statistical coverage of home athletic events, using The FOSH, Stat Crew and PrestoSports Stats Entry software.
• Serve as official statistician, track statistics, and report statistics to the conference and media for CMS events, and SCIAC and NCAA Championships that are hosted by CMS.
• Coordinate sports information coverage of all home athletic events including event previews, recaps and photography coverage.
• Oversee live streaming/broadcasting efforts and assemble team of students to broadcast and operate cameras.
• Provide a variety of promotional and marketing items for each team including feature stories, releases on student-athletes, videos, social media posts, and promotion of awards and camps.
• Provide biographical information on athletes for press releases and for student-athlete bios.
• Oversee all content on the CMS Athletics website (www.cmsathletics.org) and social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram).
• Produce game day program materials for home events.
• Interact daily with student-athletes, coaches and administrators to actively promote CMS.
• Supervise the sports information staff, hire assistants and interns, train personnel and delegate various duties and manage staff in press boxes and at scorer’s table(s), etc. with game manager.
• Manage and oversee CMS’ brand (logos, marketing materials, etc.).
• Track all team, conference, regional and national student athlete honors.
• Create engaging video and social media content.
• Maintain up-to-date historical documents and archives.
• Ensure photography coverage of sporting events.
• Interface with Public Affairs, Alumni and Development Offices to provide information on CMS.
• Handle the movement of cameras, tripods and/or broadcasting equipment as necessary.
• Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree is required, Master’s degree is preferred. Preferred degrees: communication, sport management or administration, public relations or marketing.
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 3 years of Collegiate sports information director experience is preferred.
LICENSES: A valid driver’s license is required to drive college-owned vehicles and the ability to be insured under the College’s authorized driver’s policy.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES: Individual must possess knowledge, skills, and ability to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of knowledge skills and abilities.
• Deploy professional skills in sound public relations, marketing, administrative and organizational skills, in collaboration with colleagues, to best promote the Colleges’ strategic interests.
• Must understand and communicate the mission and history of the Colleges liberal arts environment.
• Demonstrate effective, accurate and clear communication with excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, reading, and leadership skills to supervise, facilitate, motivate and inspire a highly diverse group of employees, coaches, student athletes, and other college and community personnel.
• Operate computers with basic Microsoft Office software (such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, and PowerPoint) and associated professional software (such as Stat Crew software, Presto Live Stats Entry, Presto Sports websites - CMS’ web provider, Wirecast software, video editing software, Adobe Suite - Photoshop, InDesign, etc., Stretch Internet).
• Demonstrate understanding of the use of technology/devices/equipment (such as social media platforms, cameras, video cameras and wireless devices) in assessing and improving department systems and processes to achieve annual goals and maintain confidentiality.
• Use exceptional organizational and time management skills to complete work with accuracy and a keen attention to detail.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and heavy workloads under pressure and within deadline, while delivering high-quality work.
• Ability to take and follow directions.
• Ability to work cooperatively with various individuals within and outside of our institutional framework.
• Ability to receive and respond appropriately to constructive criticism.
• Ability to work within and outside of our community with excellent customer service skills and displaying a positive attitude.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance. Objects will generally include camera, tripod and broadcasting equipment.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
The SID supervises and manages assistant(s) and support staff such as freelance photographers, interns, and various student workers for broadcasting and games management purposes.
REQUIRED HOURS:
The regular hours for this full time position may vary due to the needs of the College or division. Holiday, weekend and evening work hours will be required. Travel will be required. This is a 12 month position.

The joint CMS program is comprised of student-athletes from Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd, and Scripps Colleges, and offers a comprehensive program that consists of physical education classes, intramurals, recreational sports, club sports and varsity athletics. CMS teams compete in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), as a member of the NCAA Division III. CMS sponsors 10 men’s varsity sports (Stags) and 11 women’s varsity sports (Athenas). CMS teams have won over 300 conference championships and four team national championships since the department’s inception in 1958, and 14 of our 21 sports have finished in the top 10 in the nation.
