James Madison University, a Division I Member of the NCAA and Colonial Athletic Association is currently accepting applications for the position of Assistant to the Director of Athletics. This position will report directly to the Director of Athletics and is full-time with a comprehensive benefits package. The Assistant to the Director of Athletics will support the vision of JMU and Intercollegiate Athletics by providing support to and managing projects identified by the Director of Athletics and Athletic Leadership. The successful candidate will be the liaison for all meetings involving the Director of Athletics and oversee the day-to-day operations of Athletic Administration.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Participating in all Athletic Administration Leadership meetings.
• Serving as the primary liaison for the Director of Athletics meetings, including the Board of Visitors Athletics Committee, Duke Club Advisory Board, CAA, donor meetings and internal meetings.
• Developing agenda and presentation materials with input from the Director of Athletics and Athletic department heads.
• Maintaining the University Planning database for the Athletic Department.
• Collaborating with other areas to coordinate Athletics Directors participation at Athletic events. Notable events include: Football and Basketball game day activities, Duke Club Spring Tour, HOF and Awards banquets and community engagement events.
• Providing Director of Athletics with historical and biographical information on individuals/groups involved in events.
• Facilitating the arrangement of events and special athletic meetings, including appropriate talking points, preparation of presentations and ensuring that logistics flow smoothly.
• Coordinating scheduling of Athletic events across all Athletic Departments to ensure participation by staff and student-athletes.
The successful candidate should have previous experience with oversight of a fast-paced environment and must provide excellent customer service to the entire department. The successful candidate must also be able to multi-task projects aligning with department priorities while meeting deadlines; have supervisory experience related to the planning and execution of meetings and events and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Other qualifications include the ability to initiate, analyze, monitor and evaluate strategic plans that support the mission of the Athletics Department.
