Position Description:
The NBA's Team Marketing and Business Operations ("TMBO") group is a unique in-house consulting arm within the NBA league office that strives to drive revenue, best practices and innovation across all 67 NBA, WNBA and NBA Development League teams, and in 2018, 17 NBA 2K esports teams. The primary focus for this fast-paced and collaborative department is on improving all aspects of a team's business operations.
The primary responsibility of the Sr. Director, esports role will be to support the build out of team strategy and sales/marketing approach for the launch of the NBA 2K Esports League. This position will provide ongoing leadership to team management in the development and operations of the league, assist teams in developing creative sales and marketing approaches, and apply best practices learned from other teams, leagues, and industries. Additionally, this role is expected to closely collaborate with teams on strategic planning, organizational structure, and provide an additional executive perspective on key decisions.
Major Responsibilities:
Act as the senior NBA lead on all esports matters between the league and teams; and be responsible for in-depth consulting with a portfolio of teams
Consult with NBA 2K esports team leadership on creative marketing, revenue maximization, and effective business operations
Work with internal stakeholders to build out launch plans and advise on all aspects of the team business approach
Responsible for driving the success for teams by providing in-market consulting, recommendations and best practice sharing across key business drivers
Work with stakeholders across the NBA to integrate esports program elements within their business plans and operations
Maintain a comprehensive, up-to-date understanding of the video gaming audience and overall landscape with a deep focus on eSports industry trends, game titles, gamer talent, league operations
Oversee 1-2 direct reports
Frequent travel to team markets (total travel of 30-50%)

Ability to effectively communicate and influence, both verbally and in writing
Ability to define, develop, deploy and operationalize repeatable business models, programs and processes within gaming/esports
Possess excellent interpersonal and diplomatic skills while being able to achieve goals within a matrix organization
Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to work with other members across the organization
Experience Needed:
8-10 years in a fast-paced business environment
Experience in sales and success in developing and executing sales/marketing plans
Experience across digital and social media preferred.Sponsorship experience a plus
Experience of competitive gaming, pro-gaming, ladders, leagues, and tournaments a plus
Experience managing and working within cross-functional teams
Sports industry experience
Educational Background Required:
Bachelor's Degree, with MBA a plus
