The purpose of the Director of Athletics is to ensure the overall operations of all athletic departments of the University function in a manner that maximizes opportunities for success of all University sanctioned teams. Student-athletic academic, social, and athletic opportunities and accomplishments establish a key measurement of success. Overall compliance with NCAA, conference, and University standards and policies will occur.
Duties and responsibilities
Work under the direction of the President of the University of Louisiana at Monroe and sit on the President’s Executive Council as a senior member of the administration.
Will represent the University, the University Athletic Department, and all University initiatives with the highest integrity and affirmation in public and private discussions.
Responsible for development, management, and supervision of a competitive Division I/ Football Bowl Subdivision level athletics program.
Athletic Director will provide visionary leadership, strategic planning and policy development for the athletics department in a manner consistent with University policies and within the rules and regulations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the applicable conference.
Lead the University in fundraising efforts for the athletics programs, through collaborative establishment of annual goals, engagement of both University and ULM Athletic Foundation leaders, engagement of community leaders, and effective deployment of all human and other resources to ensure achievement of such goals
Oversee the development and management of the athletic department budget, with a focus on continued improvements of annual financial results of the collective athletic programs, with long-term focus of a collective financially self-sustaining athletic program
Maintain an ongoing, formal line of communication with each head coach, to ensure an in-depth understanding of each coach’s program vision and goals and to assist the coaches to achieve these goals within the existing program budget.
On an agreed-upon recurring basis, provide Athletic Department financial updates to the President, Chief Business Officer, and other Vice-Presidents as designated by the President.
Manage and solicit highly-qualified individuals to fill the head coaching roles and responsibilities for all sanctioned team and individual sports programs.
Qualifications/Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred.
• Must have successful experience in the administration of intercollegiate athletics or equivalent business experience.
• Skilled in fundraising, with the ability to represent the University in a friendly, open, equitable, and collegial manner
• Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational, supervisory and financial management skills.
• Thorough knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
• Proven track record of leadership, including training of present and future leaders
• Possess the ability to work with a diverse population.
• Unwavering commitment to academics, ethics and fiscal responsibility
• Ability to engender confidence by University leaders, University alumni, business leaders, coaches, and other constituents
