The Director of Tennis, Head Men's/Women's Coach is responsible for providing effective leadership for, and day-to-day management of, the sports program. The Head Coach provides training and guidance to foster skill development and teamwork among student-athletes, facilitates the integration of athletics into each student's educational experience, and initiates activities in support of the mission of Athletics & Recreation. The Head Coach oversees the Tennis ACES program and other on court programming and will have other administrative responsibilities within Athletics & Recreation.
The Head Coach must have a thorough knowledge and conscientious adherence to the rules and regulations of the NCAA, the Centennial Conference, Title IX and equal opportunity regulations, FERPA, and all applicable College policies and practices.
Major Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Implements and maintains a standard of performance consistent with the College's goals of academic and athletic excellence. Promotes academic achievement among athletes.
• Provides instruction, mentoring, coaching, evaluation of, and guidance to student-athletes to allow them to develop their athletic skills and abilities to maximum potential. Determines appropriate coaching methods and strategies in consultation with the Director of Athletics & Recreation.
• Develops, communicates, and implements effective game strategies.
• Monitors and enforces the Code of Conduct and sportsmanship guidelines, rules & regulations.
• Provides assistance in scheduling and organizing games & meets. Communicates schedules to athletes and Athletics & Recreation personnel as required; Develops and communicates practice schedules.
• Helps assure facilities and equipment are prepared in advance of practice sessions and games / meets. Monitors and reports proper maintenance of equipment and practice and contest facilities to ensure safe playing conditions.
• Cooperates with Health Services and Athletic Trainers to assure injured athletes receive proper treatment. Understands that all medical decisions related to a student athlete's health and well-being is the responsibility of the team physician and Certified Athletic Trainers and all final decisions regarding participation in practice and games lies with the medical staff. All known medical history related to injury or illness must be reported to the medical staff.
• Conducts programs within the rules and regulations of the NCAA, the Centennial Conference, and the governing body of the sport. Supports, monitors, and applies relevant rules and regulations developed by the Athletic Department Compliance Office. Assures Assistant Coaches and athletes abide by such requirements. Responsible for reporting any infraction to the Senior Compliance Officer. Required to complete annual Compliance training and education.
• Consults with and works collaboratively with Athletic Director regarding the academic performance of student-athletes as appropriate. Academic performance monitoring will be completed by the Dean of the College Office and the Registrar Office.
• Works with Admission personnel to develop and implement recruiting strategies and programs to identify and attract promising student-athletes; maintains contact with promising athletes and provides prompt follow-up to inquiries; provides recommendations to Admission staff regarding admittance to Franklin & Marshall. Maintains an understanding of Admission objectives, strategies, practices and procedures. Adheres to standard Admission practices for recruiting students.
• Helps recruit, select, and evaluate Assistant Coaches. Provides effective leadership, development opportunities, and supervision to Assistant Coaches.
• Manages the program within budgetary guidelines to avoid exceeding budgetary limits. Submits all budget-related reports as required and assures Assistant Coaches submit required reports in a timely manner. Advises the Director of Athletics & Recreation of resource needs, including funding needs and staffing needs. Formulates and submits an annual budget request as necessary.
• Works with Sports Information staff to promote the team and provide relevant information to the media.
• Works collaboratively with College Advancement personnel to promote and administer Diplomat Athletic Club activities and events.
• Works collaboratively with Tennis ACES to promote programming and supervision.
• Oversees scheduling of tennis courts for Tennis Club members.
• Participates in short- and long-term strategic planning with the Director and other members of Athletics & Recreation.
• Maintains positive and professional relations with students, athletes, alumni, Trustees, the media, and Franklin & Marshall fans.
• Participates in relevant training and development activities to enhance work-related skills and knowledge, including attending conferences and meetings as requested.
• Submits accurate expense reports as required following games / meets and other travel and team activities.
• Helps maintain athletic equipment, facilities, and uniforms in good condition.

Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree strongly preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of previous coaching experience necessary.
• Experience recruiting prospective scholar-athletes.
• Experience managing or working with budgeting preferred.
• Prior supervisory experience.
• Current CPR, AED and first aid certification.
The ability and willingness to provide excellent service and to work in a collegial manner with students, faculty and staff, and other constituencies is essential.
Because this position requires driving for College business, the successful candidate must possess a U.S. or Canadian driver's license which has been valid for at least two years, have a driving record that is free from excessive motor vehicle violations within the last three years, and have had no convictions in the last 24 months for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Because this position works with minors (non F&M students under the age of 18) mandatory training must be completed prior to working. The online training course must be completed at least once every two years by faculty, staff and Franklin & Marshall students who interact with minors.
Offers of employment are contingent upon the successful completion of reference checks, a criminal background verification, Pennsylvania ACT 153 background clearances, and verification of credentials. The College will coordinate these verifications.
