The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is accepting applications for the position of Director of Track & Field and Cross Country.
Responsibilities and duties are as follows:
planning, development and administration of all phases of the track & field and cross country program, including preparation and management of the budget, practice and game scheduling, travel arrangements and cost management, procurement of supplies/equipment, recruitment and selection of student-athletes, interaction with support services and involvement in appropriate public relations/fundraising and promotional activities.
Candidate must be committed to a philosophy that emphasizes academic priorities for the student-athlete, and have the ability to understand how to guide, teach, and communicate with collegiate student-athletes—must have comprehension of the demands placed on a Division I student-athlete—both in the classroom and in the competitive arena—and the willingness to help them succeed in both. Additionally, candidate must effectively manage the recruitment process to attract, select and hire the best staff to meet program, department and university goals.
Emphasis is placed on the commitment to and responsibility for adhering to all rules and regulations of UCLA, the Pacific-12 Conference and the NCAA.
Candidate must possess the ability to work compatibly and cooperatively with the staff and personnel in the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and other university units.
Candidate must also participate and attend department and university-related events, meetings and trainings.
Required qualifications include:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and a record of compliance in this area, fiscal management, effective communication skills with student-athletes, administrators, peers and the general public, ability to foster the values of integrity, diversity and inclusion, 5-8 years demonstrated coaching experience at the Division I level and ability to select, recruit and train elite track & field and cross country student-athletes.
