Manhattanville College, a private liberal arts institution located in Purchase, New York invites applications for the position of Director of Athletics. Mville seeks a Director who has a history of leadership and administrative accomplishment in a college athletics environment, who values the varied contributions of student-athletes both on and off the field, who fosters success in sport and in the classroom, and who reflects the highest values of integrity and personal responsibility.
Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Director must provide strategic leadership for the Athletic Department while supporting the wider mission and goals of the University. The Director will advocate for the importance of athletics within the campus community, as well as the larger community, and will serve as a role model of the high standards expected of our students. A successful candidate will have experience recruiting student athletes, as well as cultivating friends of a college athletics program in an effort to meet enrollment and fundraising goals. The successful candidate should demonstrate and support a commitment and sensitivity to diversity, gender equity, and equal opportunity, including valuing each varsity sport equally.
The Athletic Director will provide strategic leadership that includes: Enhancing existing programs and developing new programs in intercollegiate athletics that support the University’s strategic objectives for enrollment, retention and net tuition revenue.
Coordinating overall departmental operations to include the supervision of 17 full-time employees, 18 graduate assistants, 8 part-time and volunteer coaches, and 55 student employees.
Guiding head coaches to ensure they recruit academically qualified students, comply with NCAA regulations, and demonstrate a balanced commitment to academic and athletic success.
Partnering with Admissions to support recruitment efforts and University Advancement to actively engage a supportive alumni base.
Working in coordination with colleagues in Student Affairs to develop and support student access to athletic facilities for club sports, intramural, recreational, and health and wellness programs.
Shepherding the development of a robust intramural program to enhance and enrich student engagement in competition, to increase student involvement beyond the classroom and to promote physical wellness
Good stewardship of the funds provided for the operation of Mville Athletics, and the ability to cultivate valuable relationships as a means to support of fundraising and revenue development.
Service on various campus committees within the Division of Student Affairs, as well as across the broader campus community.
Representing and promoting the College and the Athletic Department to internal and external stakeholders in ways that reflect well on the College.
Minimum:
• At least five years of successful and relevant experience managing an athletics program
• Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
• Highly developed written and verbal skills, to include presentation skills
• Strong influence/negotiation skills, as well as the capacity to cultivate relationships
• Strong initiative and sound judgment
Preferred:
• Experience managing an athletics program, preferably intercollegiate athletics (Division I, II or III) on a college campus.
