OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Sports Information Director is responsible for the organization, development and coordination of all information and media for the fifteen LeTourneau University intercollegiate sports according to the mission and goals of the University in accordance with the American Southwest Conference and NCAA.
FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Prepare and coordinate the preparation of news releases and information regarding student-athletes, coaches, team records, etc. to various news media.
• Serve as liaison between athletics department and media on local, regional and national levels
• Maintain and update the LeTourneau University Athletic website.
• Produce game programs, brochures, schedules, news releases, programs, and pictures
• Update Athletic electronic/social media including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Email messages, etc.
• Responsible for home game management as it relates to sports information for varsity sports, including scheduling and overseeing game personnel such as clock operators, score keepers, statisticians, announcers, and those involved in pre-game activities
• Keep statistics for each sport for LETU, ASC and NCAA
• Nominate athletes for academic awards and provide support material for all post season awards
• Maintain historical records of LETU athletes and teams
• Attend athletic department meetings
• Attend American Southwest Conference meetings and other needed conference or national meetings
• Join and participate in CoSIDA conventions and events
• Interface with faculty, staff and students through campus activities and events
• Oversee and coordinate statistics and video for all home events
• Direct arrangement of press coverage and all necessary equipment for various news and communications media covering home athletic events
• Serve as official source for general information describing university athletics and teams.
• Coordinate athletic public relations with the University Director of Public Relations.
• Interview, hire and monitor the activities of student workers or volunteers assigned to the position.
• Must be able to use StatCrew software program for soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball and tennis.
• Oversee day-to-day operation of Sports Information Office
• Coordinate and provide photographic services for coaches and the department.
• Write and print newsletters for boosters, alumni, and other friends of the athletics program.
• Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Public Relations or related field and experience in sports journalism, knowledge of university athletics, knowledge of and skill in the principles of sports offered at LETU.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITY:
Candidates must have excellent written and oral communication skills, strong organizational skills, and be willing to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends. Minimum one year experience in intercollegiate sports information department preferred. Candidates should have working knowledge of athletic statistics and experience using Stat Crew software.
• Demonstrated excellence in sports journalism
• Working knowledge of sport statistics software (Stat crew); must be able to stat volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball and soccer in game
• Familiarity w/ Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, website maintenance and photography.
• Exceptional problem solving skills, ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and ability to resolve issues under intense time constraints and pressures
• Ability to create and edit highlight videos as well as experience with social media preferred.
• Excellent leadership skills to teach and mentor student workers.
