Head Men's and Women's Swimming Coach and Aquatics Director
The University of Bridgeport, Department of Athletics has an immediate, full-time opportunity for a Head Men's and Women's Swimming Coach and Aquatics Director. The incumbent will recruit, train, and provide guidance to members of the Men's and Women's Swimming team in a manner which promotes the academic, athletic and social success of athletes and is consistent with the mission and goals of the University of Bridgeport Athletic Department.
Primary Coaching Duties:
• Supports student-athlete academic and athletic excellence, leadership development and community engagement;
• Provides leadership in the planning and operation of the program;
• Administers the Men's and Women's Swimming program within the policies of University of Bridgeport, Metro Swimming Conference, and the NCAA;
• Represents the University of Bridgeport and the Athletic Department in a positive manner with a high degree of integrity and quality.
• Develops and maintains a successful recruiting system while maintaining a high level of visibility;
• Promotes and supports the University of Bridgeport and Athletic Department's program mission and goals.
• Promotes Men's and Women's Swimming.
• Manages team budget
• Assists with the conditioning and training of team members in conjunction with the training; unit to ensure that student-athletes are physically prepared for competition;
• Adhere to operating, equipment and scholarship budgets as established by the Athletic Department;
• Selects and supervises Assistant Coaches &/or Graduate Assistant in collaboration with the Athletic Director;
• Delegates responsibilities to Assistants, Student Coaches, and Squad members;
• Assists in promotion and public relations activities for the University of Bridgeport Athletic Department;
• Schedules contests in accordance with the policies set forth by the University of Bridgeport Athletic Department;
• Coordinates travel and meal considerations for away contests;
• Promotes and enforces discipline and sportsmanship;
• Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Primary Aquatics Director Responsibilities:
• Supervising/scheduling of lifeguards
• Oversees pool scheduling for campus use and rental use
• Oversees pool maintenance (pool chemicals, etc…)
• Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics or the Director of the Recreation.
Additional Responsibilities:
• Drives team van as needed;
• Maintain equipment;
• Performs additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent; advanced degree preferred;
• Skills and experience coaching and /or participation at collegiate level preferred; demonstrated ability and passion to teach swimming;
• Strong commitment to NCAA DII philosophy;
• Motivation and skills in recruiting prospective student-athletes;
• Ability to positively interact with all levels of the University community;
• CPR/AED certification;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• Willingness to fundraise;
• Ability to work weekdays, evenings and weekends;
• Candidate must have a valid driver's license and meet University of Bridgeport's Driving Requirements;
